I can't order seeds from Burpee or Fedco
Comments (8)If they won't ship to Canada then you need a US address. An expensive option would be to open a mailbox account with Mailboxes etc in the US. They provide a US postal address and will forward the mail anywhere (for a price). A less expensive option would be someone you trust in the US. Have the items shipped to them and they then ship to you. Be advised that this is technically illegal without the proper papers (shipping seeds/plants outside the US)....See MoreAnyone ever order plants from Burpee?
Comments (4)I only ordered plants from them once, and actually it's the ONLY time I ever ordered plants from anywhere, but I was mad. They had introduced what they called Red Brandywine Hybrid, this back in the 90's and I'm sorry, but I don't like OP heirlooms being converted to hybrids, and especially back then b'c it was the first time it happened. So I ordered seeds and a 6 pack of plants, started some from their seed, started plants from my heirloom Red Bandywine and put out a few of their plants. There was absolutely NO difference in my RB plants as compared to their supposed hybrid. They changed the name several times and I think ended up calling Buck's County Hybrid. I agree with the suggestion to buy plants from Darrels website Selectedplants.com it comes right up when you GOogle it. Prices are reasonable as compared to many other plant sites I know and packing and shipping are very good indeed. And a huge selection, but of course at this time of the eyar I have no idea what he might have left. You can e-mail him off his website about that or I think he may even give his phone number as well/ Another place with a good reputation is SSE ( seedsavers exchange). Go to the PUBLIC catalog at seedsavers.org and take a look. Not as many varieties as Darrel usually has, but plants are good as are prices and shipping. Comments (29)In my area HD sells mostly Burpee, also ferry Morse, plus Ed Hume seeds. And some not so famous organic stuff. Burpee's concentration is on hybrids that is what makes their exclusivity. Heirlooms and OP are sold by so many marketers. Price wise, Burpee faces competition and have to cut prices to be able to stay on the supply-demand curve. I think great majority of people buy seeds from big box stores an they are the best vehicle for companies like Burpee to move the products. Their newer hybrids are usually sold a premium. If ordinary ones price 2 bucks the new ones are price like $3.50. Anyway. All I need just some Brandy Boy hybrid. The rest of my picks are all heirloom/OP. There this small internet store called: sample seeds shop (dot com) . they maybe over 100 varieties and the price is $1.26 per pack, Shipping about 3 bucks for average order. They also have peppers, vegetables , herbs. Worth visiting their site. I would never buy anything from Burpees online at inflated prices, as a matter of principle. The next vender to avoid is Bonnie....See MoreAnyone else have bad luck buying plants from Burpee?
Comments (1)Burpee's prices are on the high side. Besides seeds, I regularly buy tomato, pepper, and herb seedlings from them and my experience has always been very good. In those plants they deliver small, but healthy plants well packaged and taken care of. They are far better than similar plants I've gotten from other catalogs. But I've never ordered a bigger perennial from them - just the veggies and herbs....See Morewertach zone 7-B SC
