a lot of questions but few answers on this thread The thread is 6 years old. Most veteran responders do not pay much attention to threads that stale. New questions should generate the start of a new thread. Some of the leaves are turning red. Why? Some varieties do produce very burnished or ruddy new growth and some will redden in response to cold weather. Otherwise, red foliage generally indicates the plants have issues......drainage, leaf spot or other fungal infection or the leaves are just dead. I know the berries are non toxic to humans but how about pets? Plants that are non-toxic to humans are generally (but not always) non-toxic to dogs and cats as well. If your vet cannot find documentation of toxicity, I doubt there's much concern. The berries are actually edible when cooked and can be used to make jam. Probably much too tart or bitter to eat fresh but dog taste buds are strange :-)

Hello So far everything is hanging on though i moved everything portable into the house.3 years ago I started a hedge of Vanda orchids between two queen palms and I erected a temp GH with heat Concerned about the Schizolobium and Cassia roxburghii way to big too cover as well as the evergreen plumeria. They had just recovered from last year!! All my tropical fish were wiped out last year that I'd kept since 82. Brace yourself there's another coming Monday. looks like it will stay above frost in my area. Geez winter has just started and I was looking forward to global warming to help out !! good luck gary

The photo in my post was taken in 2007 in Virginia. We had lots of deer there, so that's how I know that they ignore JM's. Currently, all the JM's in my yard in San Antonio are either in raised beds or containers using a combination of purchased top soil and potting soil mix. I left Crimson Queen behind, but did import three Red Emperor seedlings to Texas when we moved here last year. JM's are one of my attempts at zone denial and it seems to be working so far. Crimson Queen was replaced with the Tamekuyama which is apparently more suited to this climate. Your Shantung Maples are beautiful. I'll have to see if I miss fall color over time. I am originally from Houston, so Texas seasons (basically hot and not quite as hot) are not that new to me. btw - how does the grama grass look now? DH has reservations about the seed heads sticking up. Thinks he'll have to get the mower out more than once a year. We are about to go to stage 3 drought restrictions, lawn watering once every two weeks. Have a good weekend, Marble Falls area is nice.

I love ballerina indian hawthorne-good choice! The boxwood beauty natal plum is very hardy and a similar size to the ballerina hawthorne. You could stagger them and that would look beautiful. I often use boxwood beauties in this way. Be careful to buy the variety that stays small and has little to no thorns (do not get the tuttle).
