Deanna: I too had the same problem in Z6 for the past 2 years (this is my 3rd). I have a Jackmani and Henryi next to it. No problem with H. but my J. started turning the mottled color 3 yrs ago. Thinking hubby hit it with Weed n Feed, I waited and about 1/2 the lower greens turned a yellow green veined look BUT produced perfect flowers on the upper green leaves..looked terrible though! After posting, I got a bit of help...Jeanne in TX is right....I had to top dress last year and add nutrients. Also possibly ground is so poor it will not release the proper nutrients if you have them. This year (3 yrs later and putting blue tarps down to prevent the Weed n Feed problem), it only has about 1/5 of the greens that way....not perfect but improving and looks less. I also was going to dig and toss if not improved this year...I can now save it!!! It took a few years to get in this condition and will take a few to get out of it...patience please. Use that manure for sure and Epsom salts too. Check with your nursery person also...mine indicated LEAF CHLOROSIS for which I also used Iron Sulfate by Bionide...look that up on the Internet...this has helped a lot. Unfortunately I think you're right, everything I've searched for so far points to herbicide damage. It's completely my own fault too I think. I thought I was careful and and was avoiding drift. Thanks for the sites though they're really helpful. I still can't figure out if my plants are salvageable or if I should tear them out and plant new. I don't want to keep growing them if they've been permanently damaged or unsafe to consume.

One of the things I'm doing this year is interplanting basil with melons and squash. The melon and squash vines just grow all around the basil, which grows well above them, but the roots don't really share any soil. So while the basil produces just a smidgen of shade on the vines below, it's otherwise wholly independent. I can load up N fertilizer on the basil without overloading the melons and squash. This is in a bed that gets 100% sun, so a bit of shade is no bother. I never bother planting new basil. I just continually harvest from individual plants, and they just keep churning out more. But I'd better stop talking about basil in a tomato thread.

Ficus elastica (tineke): SUNLIGHT... sits in an East facing window, gets moderate direct sunlight throughout the day; WATER... watered only when first two inches are dry... I water until I see it drip through the drainage holes at the bottom then let it dry out throughout the day; FERTILIZATION... SO, I think this might be where my issue lies, however, I am not sure so I'm hoping someone can confirm my suspicions. I had thought Ficuses liked being fertilized every TWO WEEKS after reading an article that suggested that, however... I did some research again and I'm seeing more articles that state it should only be fertilized ONCE A MONTH. I use a 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer at half strength for her and have fertilized her TWICE already after waiting two weeks since the first time... am I right for thinking that it is an overfertilization issue??? PLEASE HELP!!! This bottom leaf just dropped as I was inspecting my tineke... look at those brown edges :( More brown edges... This one has a brown tip as well :( More brown edges... But she's been giving new growth on each parent plant... I've gotten one new leaf from each parent plant since spring started so that's a good sign yes? (Total of three since I have three tineke's planted in one pot). Overall health of the plant. That bottom right leaf was like that when I bought it so pay no mind to it.
