My first tomato plant

I'm new to gardening and I bought an Early girl plant (spur of the moment) from Home Depot in the beginning of December. I potted it in a container that way I can take it outside during the day (avg temp 65-70F) and bring it inside if I think it's going to get too cold. I already have a small tomato growing and there are more blossoms on the plant. Is this normal for this time of year? When I bought it, I wasn't expecting for any tomatoes to grow for a while. Since it is growing them right now, am I causing any harm to the plant for when I transplant in my garden at our last frost date? Thanks for any advice.
