Grass itself is a weed in the garden. That was a big mistake to plant it. I have Bermuda grass plus some kind of giant forage type grass that I think came in some horse manure compost I bought and I am constantly fighting them.

I use ground cloth and cover it with mulch. This effectively blocks the sunlight from reaching the weeds without impacting permeability of moisture and oxygen to the soil.

Gravel would also work if you run machinery between the rows.

I stay away from solid plastic since it starves the soil of oxygen, a critical element for soil health and good yields.

If using mulch on ground cloth, some weeds will sprout in the mulch layer but there will be few and easily removed due to shallow 1 inch root. Because the cloth forms a physical barrier, any weeds thet do sprout are not taking nutrients out of the soil your crops use.

This combination also retains moisture well, without suffocating the soil.

you can put your rows of plastic close together and then mulch between them with straw. or leave enough space between the rows to fit your lawnmower and just keep those weeds trimmed back. or use a weed wacker.

What is the name of the ground cloth you used, or a brand name of the ground cloth?

Use cardboard!

Name of the ground cloth? Ouch, I have no idea. I got two big rolls of it at Costco, 7' and 3' wide in the tan color. The plastic label is long gone.

Any good farm supply house should have it. Pretty standard item.

It's even considered plastic mulch so you can stay organic if you replace it every year.
