Need help choosing a fig for Knoxville, TN
Comments (4)Someone has to say it - why not plant Tennessee Mountain fig (which I am led to believe is actually a form of the Celeste fig). Truthfully, of the eight varieties of fig growing in my yard the Celeste is probably the most reliable, and the fruit are delicious, although not large. However, the only place I know of which sells the Tennessee Mountain fig is Tyty Nursery, and there seems to be some doubt on this forum about doing business with them. I might add that I ordered from them and had good luck. Please do visit their website, it is hilarious!.....Elder...See MoreSource of VA Pines in Knoxville
Comments (1)I don't have a definite answer but will offer some suggestions that might lead somewhere. Look up Christmas tree growers. There are a number of them in the Knoxville area. I have seen at least two out in east Knoxville near Rutledge Pk. They should have these or at least be able to tell you who would. Also, check with "full service" nurseries and see if they can recommend someone or possibly order them for you. I bet Mike out at Beaver Creek Nursery might be able to point you in the right direction. One thing you might try (not sure how well it will work), is to contact Kinsey Gardens Inc on Rutledge Pike or Cedar Row on Ebenezer Road. Tell them you know they are wholesale only but that you're desperate for their help. They supply many local nurseries. If all else fails, there are great places to buy seedlings online / mailorder....See MoreTalahi plant sale in Knoxville?
Comments (27)Any information on dates for 2008...haven't seen much on it this year. For those that haven't attended in the past, I too have not been impressed with the prices and plants offered but it's still fun to walk around and compare prices with your favorite nursery. Their attendance seems to be off each year and they have had to mark things down earlier in the sale to get rid of plants. I go late and wait until they mark things down and have found a few good bargins at the end. Other than that, their prices are higher than my favorite nursery....Stanley's Also, don't bother asking the "garden club" ladies questions about plants..they are just there to socialize and have not been very helpful in the past. My advice..sleep in and then go late for last minute bargins!...See MoreBerries in Knoxville
Comments (1)fuselighter, I don't have any specific leads, but I bought raspberry canes at Mayo's on Broadway--about 10 years ago, though. I can't think that they're that rare around here, are they? Surely Stanley's? Good luck, Jenny...See MoreSmokyMist
