Prune Diva Cucumber Vines?
Comments (2)Usually you pinch/cut the tips off, to controll the vines. I don't know what DIVA cucumber is, but gourds grow vigorously. At their peak, vines can grow close to 1ft a day. You can also pinch any new shoots when small. I think You have also too many plants and that is one reason your trelis canno accommodate. I was in similar situation to yours, last year. This year I am well prepared and know what to expect. My birdhouse gourds are setting fruits now....See MoreControlling/getting rid of cucumber beetles
Comments (8)I try several approaches. One group of cucumbers are covered with agribon 15 row cover and hoops made from PVC pipe. I cover 3 sides with dirt and the fourth with a heavy pipe so I can remove it and inspect he plants, water, etc. I used the Diva variety as it is parthenocopic and does not need bees to pollinate the flowers. I have also kept several this year uncovered but sprayed with Kaolin clay. I have 25 pounds of the Kaolin and need less than 1 cup per year so if anyone lives in the area they are welcome to have some. My sticky yellow traps have not caught any yet but I have seen a few of the bugs around the garden but not near the cukes....See Morewild cucumber vine question
Comments (3)We use to grow these each year to provide shade for a brightly lit sunroom. Very prolific but relatively easy to contol and trim. Collect seeds for next year before yanking the plants out in the fall. Grows really fast so can be used as a privacy screen. Nice lemon-green colour. I kind of miss them, makes me nostalgic....See Moresafer brand for cucumber beetle control
Comments (3)Pyrethrins, while a natural pesticide is a very broad spectrum poison that will kill off any of the predators of Cucumber Beetles as well as the pests. Surround, a Kaolin clay that coats the plant leaves, seems to offer a good deal of protection. It does not kill off the beetles but disguises the plant so they do not land on it. There are a number of other steps to take that the article linked may be of some help with. Here is a link that might be useful: Control of Cucumber Beetles...See Morealbaby
