Forgot to put newspaper down

griley

I finally started planting in my new raised bed today. So far just tomatoes at the ends and two rows of peppers. It was too windy to try to fool with seeds today. With the grids in place the bed even looks good without much in it- so nice and neat. I'm so glad that I found this site and I've enjoyed reading about everyone's gardens- thanks for the inspiration!

I realized today that I forgot an important step before filling the bed- I forgot to put newspaper or cardboard down to smother the sod. The bed was to be 12" high but to level it we had to dig down a couple of inches so it is about 10 inches high. Surely, 2000 pounds of soil would smother anything below it, right? Please say 'yes'!!
