Wow!! What a difference 8 days can make

Hey all

We've had a crazy heat wave around here for the last 4 days or so. Temps upwards of 104.

I took a picture of my sqarefoot garden for Krisimamma today, and I noticed the vast differences in my plants since the one I took on the 9th.

Talk about growth

I'm impressed! When did you plant? And did you plant seed or starts?

I'm also in the East Bay (El Cerrito), but nothing in my SFG is quite THAT big yet. Regardless of whether it was planted from seed or a start. *sigh*

DANG!!! That is incredible!! I'm so jealous! We need some heat here. It was high of 59 today *rolls eyes* Peas and strawberries and a few cucs are coming along, the rest is being slooooow (peppers, beans, tomatoes).

Thanks for the nice comments. I am especially fond of the short yellow flowers - the ones that make the nice puffs of seed? -Haven't gotten them cleared out yet. Well, it's Saturday, the sun is shining, and I'm off to play with my chainsaw. About the only trees that didn't get major damage are the spruce trees, only because we didn't have much wind. Connie

This is my first year gardening but my experience is the same as yours. Once the plants get established, it is awesome! Zero weeding, and with the rainy weather we have had, I haven't watered the garden in over a month. However with the seedlings it's difficult, they can get burned / destroyed easily. Once i figured this out, I just put rocks around each of the plants until they got established to hold the plastic down, and then pulled them back.

Thanks everyone! Not a typical GW or Houzz kitchen, so finding pics to validate what I see in my head has been a challenge! The floors are Ten Oaks sealed unfinished hardwood. We actually like the light color, but will have them refinished to match the flooring in the rest of the house, which is much darker. The long run is double oven, fridge, full cabinet, buffet cabinet, buffet cabinet and full cabinet to finish. Counter templating is tomorrow and install is the following week. Counters are a dark brown granite. I am thinking cream subway or brown glass subway for BS, but the counters will tell me more once they are installed. I want to do an ORB lightover the sink, but can't find the "right" one. Argh! Looking forward to tommorrow and wish you all the best on your projects.

bdobs... yes, we've had that awful nasty weather, haven't we. At least you've got something to show for it. LOL Seriously, though, congratulations, they look wonderful!

My boxes are finally built and the mix is mixed (my sweet hubs did the sweat equity today) but the plants aren't in the ground until probably tomorrow.

Hey, can you answer a few questions:

1) what's the thick green netting. Is that for birds? And where did you find it. It seems much easier to work with than the flimsy thin bird/deer netting I have over my blueberries... and I have critters here. You probably do too, depending on where in the east bay you are. Deer, scrub jays, racoons, skunks, and probably those nasty roof rats.

2) in one of your photos, I saw an open bottle of tecate. What's that for?

3) When you transplanted, did you use any kind of root doctor type product? On the recommendation of my mom, I bought a bottle of Rootmaster B1 so the plants don't suffer too much shock (with all this heat). Just wondered if you did, too.

Wow, I was just saying what an amazing job 3 days in the mid 80s did for my garden, but it's nowhere near what your garden did! That is incredible growth! Way to go!

Thanks guys. My wife thinks I'm a sick man as my garden started with 4 Tomato's, and I'm up to 9 LOL

All in the box were planted as little seedlings except for the Carrots.

The green netting is somesort of deer fence stuff I bought at Home Depot in Martinez last year. Comes in a roll, I found it just inside from the garden center
Yup, squirrels, racoons and most importantly my two cats.

Bottle of beer was just for size reference, and my sanity in this heat

No type of root doctor at time of planting, just a bit of Gardentone fert about two weeks after planting

WOW!!! now thats some size!! almost like my tomatoes when i used stay green from the regular stuff to the aqua control , the difference in the tomatoes, the two different ones planted in the two different soils. it is deffinately crazy!!! LOL and the having not to water for 3 days to 1 day!! so 1 side i have to water daily the other side every 3 days. LOL (and they are much bigger!!)
