white elephant seed swap

Since finishing my winter sowing, I find I have lots of seeds that did not get used and I'm sure that there are others who have leftover seeds, what I'm calling "White Elephants". I'd love to swap them for other people's extras.

Anyone want to join in? You may send up to 2 packs of any kind of seed, as long as they have your GW name, the plant name (botanical names preferred) and varietal name if known or a description. Let's keep the age of the seeds down to collected in 2008 and 2009, unless you'd like to throw them in as extras.

Post here by April 1st and I will email you with further details.

Sending wishes for four special ladies: Carol, congratulations on the new baby in the family and hope you are feeling better now that your meds have caught up to you. Susie and Anita, prayers for you that you will be better soon. Sassy, I'm hoping the situation with you brother has improved. Take care of yourselves! The sun has been out here the last two days which is helping. We had bad storms the day before that. We have been getting rain regularly since January and I guess we forgot about the problems it brings - my winter sown containers get flooded and then I spend a few days completely taking the tops off in the daytime so they can dry out a bit and recovering them at night. At least I don't seem to have lost anything yet. However, now that I have planted over 100 containers, it is quite a project! Actually, most of the milk jugs seem to be able to handle the rain, it's all my smaller "use anything style" containers that are having the bad problems. I will definitely save the milk jugs to use again next year. Actually, we go through lots of milk at our house but nearly all the milk jugs now are opaque rather than transparent so there are only a few that we can save. Sometimes I cut the whole top off the opaque ones and try to use them, but then the plastic that I put over the top does not hold up well to the heavy rain. I use rubber bands to attach plastic to the top of the container and those seem to snap apart every few days. Maybe eventually I will get just the right set up. However, the plants in the ground are happy as can be and I will have wonderful displays of daffodils and tulips this year. Will have to post pictures soon. Jeanne

Now I know it's quite premature to post these pictures, as my project is a long way from finished. However, I'm excited about my progress and I'm thinking that a group of gardens will be able to see the "potential" here. LOL! While you guys have been playing this week, I started work on installing a sidewalk between the end of the house and the new garage. The space is only about 8 ft. wide so my vision is to install this 4' wide walk and then (maybe next year) plant the sides with small hosta and similar sized plants. The walk in the picture is about 15' long. When finished, it there will be about 10' more walk at the 4' width and then it will widen into a "patio" of sorts for another 10-12'. We had a horrid rain yesterday that washed out some of my edge pavers before I got soil packed in around them but that's okay. It won't take long to get back on track. And, here is a picture of the gate I built last year with a plan to install it across the sidewalk, between the house and garage. One year soon, I'll be caught up with those of you who have nearly perfected your gardens. For now, I'm still installing structural elements.

We're up to 11 participants now, not counting Jaynine who's still on the fence.

In going through my own seed stash, I've already got at least 100 packs of seeds to throw into this RR. I'm sure that there are lots of people in a similar situation.

All requests to join should be in by April 1st - with seeds being mailed by April 15th. I don't think I need to say this, but just in case, please make sure that you put enough postage on the envelope. Also, please make sure that you are using a bubble envelope to protect the seeds.

Hi Ann! I started going through my seeds as well and I have over 30 in the bubbler already...where in the world did they all come from???? :0) I think I have garden gnomes at work in my seeds drawer :0)

Just a quick message to all who signed up - Caandahl, Seedeater and TenStepsAhead - I never received seeds from you or a response. All others, I am mailing out seeds to you today.
