Comments (6)I had a picture of the tag but I can't find it now. I know for sure it said Contesse not Comtesse. I think it must have been a mistake on someone's part. I went back and bought this rose because they had them strategically placed along the pathways so you could not help to smell them.. I found this article so I'm fairly sure it is Comtesse de Provence. I bought that year. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/pacificnw/2001/0527/plant.html BTW I just went out to see if the tag was on the plant(It wasn't) but it looks like I got 5 canes. 2 Brown ones and 3 green ones. I will try to keep this one alive....See MoreLiv tyler
Comments (8)Looks great! Susan you are a truly dedicated rose grower! I've also got weeping canes on my two Liv Tyler/Comtesse de Provence'. The canes are thin and wiry, almost like its an HT crossed with a 'Lady Banks' type of rose. I think this is year #4, they did not "leap" last year, but they seem to be this year, finally....See MoreVery fragrant hybrid teas with outstanding mildew resistance?
Comments (14)My opinion here is of limited value, since we only see powdery mildew here briefly in spring and fall. But for a deep red rose, Deep Secret has shown outstanding disease resistance all around and is as fragrant to my nose as Chrysler Imperial, Papa Meilland, or Mr. Lincoln, and all three of those get mildew easily when the conditions permit. Deep Secret also had the added advantage of holding its deep vibrant red color through the life of the bloom, instead of turning crimson. Only negatives are smaller bloom size (around 3" diameter) and a muddled arrangement of petals in the center once the bloom is more than halfway open. The buds, though, are very beautiful....See Morenew orders
Comments (33)I've already ordered (and just received) Quietness and Don Juan from Chamblees. So they are planted. Eager to see what they do this spring. I'm holding off ordering anything more until spring for 2, well 3 reasons. I am trying to support our local quality nurseries. I've been talking to them, and they've had a rough go trying to order, due to the choas going on with growers lately. J&P of course is out of commission for the moment. Weeks, who knows. The nurseries will have roses; they just don't know which of the varieties they ordered will actually arrive. I want to browse theirs in February first. Then I might go ahead and order mailorder. 2nd reason is money. My budget is sad currently; will be a little better come January. 3rd reason is there is a slight chance my wife may get a professor gig she's looking at that would require us to move in August--all the way to Juneau, Alaska!! That would be an adventure, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. I like our growing season here much better. But hey! Believe it or not, Juneau's in zone 7. No too bad considering how far north it is. Gotta love that marine effect air. My hope is that her current university will offer her fulltime work soon. If that happens, we won't even consider moving. Here's what I "probably" will add in the spring. Peace (again) Buxom Beauty/aka Parole either Veteran's Honor or possibly Pride of England Love and Peace I've also been eying Osiana, Tropical Sunset,Sugar Moon, Dolly Parton, St. Patrick, and Santa Fe. I don't know where I would put these, though. : )...See MorePrettypetals_GA_7-8
