There are literally hundreds of Salvia (sage) cultivars. Unfortunately, the information you provided doesn't help much. How did you come to realize that it was a Salvia? Did it have an aroma? Anything else to go on? The culinary sages are from the genus Salvia and most of those are cultivars of Salvia officinalis. Check out pictures of the green leafed culinary varieties if you think it is the herb. The following web sites are full of salvia photos, although many are of the flowers only so those won't be of much help. Here is the same plant at the Nat'l Herb garden, pic taken this morning. They had their first frost last week but it didn't effect the J. Sage. I pulled the flower apart and tasted it and it is sweet like honey. Perhaps it had some medicinal value? Am sure the blooming will slow down once it gets freezing cold.
