I would visit Architectural Trees in Jacksonville, NC - and of course Camellia Forest Nursery in Chapel Hill would be a must stop.

I think there are a few bamboo gardens deep inland, on the Northshore. Here's one: bamboogardensla.com Note that tours are by appointment. That one's near Mt. Herman, off 55, almost to Mississippi. I've planted their 'Chinese Goddess' clumping bamboo here in Madison, as a sound-absorbing measure. We sold the house years ago, but the bamboo stays at twelve feet, is very dense, does not spread (though the clumps do get wider), and the new owners report their home is now an oasis of quiet. It's one of a very few things I've planted, which I'd consider a complete success. And if you're in the French Quarter for any reason, remember that the safer part is on the River Side of Bourbon Street. If you're alone, don't get too close to Canal Street, and don't cross Esplanade.

I would stop by the Plant Haus on walnut (across from Albertson's) and see what they have at this point. Get most of their tomatoes from Peterson Bros. in San Antonio. But they have started growing more of their own as well. Happy Growing David

Hey Dave, that is exciting about the new place (always fun to start over like that). I am sure you will create an awesome new garden too. I have been gardening with unusual conifers for a while and have established friendships and connections at the 3 best nurseries here. I even place orders for a couple of them (haha). I always like to stop by a good nursery or two wherever I go because they are so different. Many times I will pick up a miniature/small dwarf or 2 if they will fit in my bag...my wife always gives me a hard time about that...not sure if family tree does smaller stuff, but I am excited to check it out later this week.
