UPDATE: #7-4th annual whats left on my want list swap

HI all sorry I have been lost in the seeds and working extra hours the last couple of days.

The Steelers victory parade was crazy once again at least they had barricades up this time last time when my daughters band marched they didn't and I actually was having to throw elbows at people crowding the street to keep them away from the kids I was working but went out at lunch for a few minutes to see the crowds I sure was glad to go back inside TOO many people.

I am slightly over halfway thru the seeds am hoping to mail by the weekend Monday at the latest.

I'm worried my answer to question 6 might mislead someone, so I've removed part of the original answer. I have also altered question 8.

    1. Does it have conspicuous flowers? Yes
    2. Is it a perennial? Yes
    3. Is it taller than 12"? Yes
    4. Is the flower blue? No
    5. Is the flower pink? No
    6. Is it edible? Yes, but not the whole plant
    7. Is it native/naturalized to North America? Yes, in 9 states
    8. Is it fragrant? Yes, but only when the flowers are dried and emersed in warm water.
    9. Is it a shrub? No

    1. Does it have red berries? No

    Things it is not:

Hint: It constantly produces new offset corms on short underground stolons that come out from the mother corm

My total packet bet is 7979.43 by the law of average, should be right on the button. Now while we wait can we talk about my poor pumpkin seeds that were so fresh when I sent them, I mean I was still turning them every hour in the sun coming thru my french doors, before bagging them. Anyway, today, to my horror, the Musque de Provence seeds were moldy green!!!!I did not figure tha tthe time from when I packed them and the time we will get our seeds back would be enough to mold them, as I din't want to treat them with chemicals or bleach but maybe I should have!!! Looked on line for answers , someone mentioned rinsing the seeds in hydrogen peroxide before drying them. I panicked and use what was close at hand , put some bleach in water and filled the little baggie with it and slooshed them around until they cleaned up a bit, then i rinsed them further with my fingers, and planted them in a peat pot to see about germination. I don't know what to tell you. It's really sad to loose these, they were beautiful pumpkins, of the brightest orange flesh. If they are really lost then I will have to make sure mine grows and distribute the seeds again thru another swap.I am so sorry about that, thought i was doing the seeds a favor by not using bleach or other chemicals...and look what happened. Melinda - I feel for you! I'm sorry you've had so many colds for so long. I tell you, every time my latest one acts like it's about to go, then I fall further sick... it's weird to start feeling like you're getting better just to then ache more than before! Jean - You really had me giggling there. I understand all too much. I'm about half way through the lists and still have to pack up the matched seeds to what I know I have in my stashes.... somewhere... I wish they were all alphabetized! LOL Blessings, Angela

UPDATE: part 3 whats 5th annual whats left on my want list swap

Hi, everyone! Mmmm, apple cider doghnuts. I've only had those once, and we ate the whole bag within 15 minutes of leaving the orchard. They're scrumptious! Ollierose, I try to know the botanical names for the plants I grow, (or at least list them with it) so I only look up botanical names that seem really familiar, because those may be seeds I can send in and I'm just not making the right mental connection. If I don't recognize it at all, it's not something I can send in. If you want to look things up, the fastest way I've found is 1. have the google toolbar 2. type the Latin and the word plantfiles 3. read all about it. That's also my first step in deciding if I want a plant, but I always look them up on a few sites, because they all have inaccuracies sometimes. I like to increase my chances for trades by making it easy for the trader to know that I have what they want, or they have what I want, by using both common names and latin. Except I'm sure I've neglected to do that completely :) It's another cold, grey day, and I have so much garden cleanup to do, still perennials to get in the ground, plus a couple hundred bulbs--but all I want to do is sit in front of the woodstove with my tiny kitten!

I would love to see Chris be able to join us in this swap as so many others seem to agree. (I read a little further and see that she's in... WELCOME, CHRIS! You're gonna have a great swap with us!) Amy (morguegirl) - I would love to grow those Guyanese Peas, if you don't mind sending some in for me. Thanks so much for posting the offer! They sound very interesting! Mark (markcase1964) - If you're sending more in to Patty, I saw that you had Black Walnut, Native Pecan, and Jerusalem Artichoke available before. Do you still have some of those that you could send in for me? David (intelkid) - I sure hope you decide to stay. It seems that others that thought they didn't have much were still able to fill some wants when they posted and were able to participate and get things back that they really want. I think it'll be fun, and you'll enjoy it if you stay! (As I read more posts, I see stage_rat has offered very generously to assist you! Wow! It amazes me over and over again, how wonderful the GW'ers are! Welcome back, David!) Happy New Year everyone! Blessings, Angela

I just spent half an hour on the phone with my mother, who was as excited as me to get this package...Methinks she has designs on my seeds hehehe...but I always share with her and it goes both ways.
anyhow...she wanted me to read her every seed I I read every name on every package of 70 something packs of seeds to her. She just couldn't believe it. I think she wishes she was on the internet and could take part in swaps like this !

I haven't been on GW for the past week, been sick with a lung infection and trying to get ready for a baby shower IÂm hosting on Sat. It's been fun reading the plant guessing games.

IÂm really enjoying reading the reactions of those who have already received their packages back. It sounds like Patti has outdone herself, again!!! Would love to see everyone playing with their seed packets, makes me laugh every time I think about it.

Dirt  The best is saved for last. Our packages will probably knock our socks off!
