Vegetable Garden Help!

Hi all- I am hoping for some suggestions. About a month ago when we were having work done in our yard, workers ran over and completely destroyed our well ( our only source of outside water). Ever since I have been diligently using a five gallon bucket to water the garden and keep it flourshing. Little did I know, my husband decided to empty gasoline from our edger into the bucket the other day. When watering my plants I noticed a gasoline smell (but I am also 33 weeks pregnant and always smelling something) there was also a light filmy residue on the top of the water- which at the time I attributed to the recent rains. Needless to say, I have now used this bucket to water twice. It has only been a few days since the initial watering, but the plants seem to be ok. If they continue to survive, my questions are as follows:

Are the vegetables themselves contaminated since the soil was exposed to watery gasoline residue?

Do I scrap the garden altogether for this season, or is there still hope?

Should I remove all the growing/ ripe vegetables today- in fear of contamination-continue to water ( with a clean bucket!) and hope for new growth?
Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated! As I mentioned being 33 weeks pregnant is probably contributing to my fears of eating anything out of my garden, yet it has been a constant source of food all summer and I hate to give that up!

My daughter called me this evening about her garden. Her peas are 7' tall and loaded with peas; her tomato plants are 4'tall and nearly as wide and loaded with tomatoes. The owner of the place just informed her the reason her garden is so lush is because she planted it over the septic tank. So she called me to ask if it will be safe to eat the foods she has planted? Well it really depends on the breed you use, and how you lay out your garden. I breed Virginia, samsun and aztec and the first two acts more like a retribution than a solution. Pests eat other plants, then move onto the tobbacco, then get sick causing them to die or, become slow and disoriented, or leave. However with aztec tobbacco the insects often die before they realize it is harmful to them. It acts as a wall for Pests that do not target any specific plant. It also is pretty hardy. that being said it's not as pretty or big as other types of tobbacco, will need to be planted around your gardens perimeter, and bug's can simply walk around it. It also isn't good for smoking You are much better growing aztec tobbacco separately, harvesting the leaves, drying them, and using them to make next years pesticides. This requires far less planning and tobbacco plants

This year I planted my peppers on the shady side of the 'maters. A local urban farmer taught me that, it's working quite well (although the hot peppers are totally exposed). When first planting in this heat, I put up some tomato cages near the plants (or over tomatoes) and throw white sheets over everything to make shade and then clothes peg them to the cage (or whatever) is holding up the shade. Working like a charm.
