Janice Kellogg

I purchased Janice Kellogg rose this past spring. It's flowers are beautiful - large, packed with petals. Color is deep, rich and velvety.

The only drawback is lack of fragrance which I really would expect from a rose having Yves Piaget as one of it's parents.

That's one luscious looking rose! I love the color and petals. I've learned to love roses whether they have scent or not because of their beautiful form. Thanks for sharing this velvety pic Marina.

I saw this one at the garden center this year and sure liked the looks of her. I may have to put her on the unrealistically long short list !!

Did you fertilize? I hit my roses with 15-30-15 fertilizer than they all woke up like crazy. Now I will switch to Virgo fertilizer hereon. I am getting some very strong breakout from root/graft areas. my plants are 10-yr old. I also have two bare roots that I planted a week ago, they were very weak when I got them. I hope they breakout too.

When I went no-spray, I was very very sad to see Distant Drums go... It is a one of a kind... Every year as the weather would change more roses would show signs of disease... and they would have to go bye bye... Now, several years later, it is rare for one to pop up with something... I was a bit dismayed to see French Lace turn up with PM this spring because it has been clean up until now... but this spring was a lot cooler than usual... so you just never know who is going to succumb... I will miss her, but am already looking for a replacement in the same color... :)

Mutabilis is an old China Rose. It is continuous-blooming, and prefers to grow to substantial size in a mild climate. My 3-y-o Mutabilis is a good 6-7 ft tall and about 6 ft across and it is still expanding. You can prune it to be smaller, but it will be much showier if you let it grow into its preferred size-range. gardengranny2 - When you say you have tried over and over with no sucess what do you mean? Did the roses die overwinter for you? Did they get fungus deseases and finially succome? Did the Japanese Beetles decend in hordes? Did the deer eat them to the ground each day? Were they just spindy and never bloom much? I actually love Knockouts. There is everything great about them and just about no flaws. I have eight double knockouts but if I had lots of room and had a long expanse of fence or wall that I wanted to hide I would plant a mass row of Knockouts in whichever color I liked the best. They look spectacular planted that way and thats what counts. I actually have eight double knockouts. I didn't think about it until now but I don't think I have done pictures of them. I will have to fix that on my next photo shoot.

Wow! That is a real stunner!! Beautiful pic... I have heard that many roses have 'jumping genes' when it comes to smell. That's probably why it's so hard to get that 'perfect' red rose...

The colour of this rose is stunning! It sure does look like it would be fragrant, but its beauty makes up for it.

Thanks everybody! It's very sad but I have to say that I don't have my Janice Kellogg anymore. We moved to new house in December and JK was (like hundreds of other roses) potted, waiting to be planted.
Unfortunately, she didn't make it. I will be looking for a replacement rose probably next spring - I still have too many to plant right now.

I can not report on how it takes the heat and sun because at the old place I had her potted in a bright shade.

I bought a boxed Janet Kellog today and the picture on the box was so beautiful it was beyond words. The box does claim it has a nice fragrance but you can't believe what they say on the boxes much of the time.
