Ms Faith has had some Conferences and Talks on Butterflies & Garden stuff! ! ! Use2Bcapecodder~~ Sandy has a new computer and is busy~~ Busy ~~~ B U S Y !!!!! and Me..... I have Missed everyone so very very much... But I have kept Ya'll ALL in my prayers!!! as Karen says... I am sorting, packing, giving away~~~ and just de- cluttering and throwing out trash and Doing the unthinkable....DOWNSIZING ! ! ! Have to PART with some TREASURES! ! ! boohoo!!!! It is So hard... I should be use to it....I've had to do it SEVERAL TIMES B-4 ! ! ! but it is still NOT EASY ! ! ! I am trying to pass on to others.... some garden treasures.... When I visit my daughter in Tampa, we visit a Florida Natives Nursery out in the country from Sarasota on Myakka Road. I tried to get their plant list from their web site, but when I clicked on it, it kept bringing me back to the home page. You could call them and see how well stocked they are with passionvines. I'm surprised zebra longwings will use the red-flowering types of passionves - I thought they were toxic to ZLs as well as gulf frits. I'm quite sure the plants at this nursery are not sprayed, nor would they likely use systemics. And they could give you some good advice about where to plant them. I'm not familiar with Florida conditions, and I've never had the pleasure of raising zebras, just gulf frits. If this nursery is out of passionvines, you could make a trip to Mail Order Natives in Lee, Florida in the panhandle (toward the eastern part) and get P. incarnata, which I know all longwings thrive on. Ginny, I agree very much. I'm sorry not to have been a contributor for a while -- I've been away on unexpected and extended 'medical leave' for about a year, but have recently begun to ease back into my former Gardenweb habits via the Landscape Design forum. I'love to see an active discussion here as well. Many will remember that there was quite a discussion, if not controversy, at the time this forum was created concerning what it should be called and what topics it should encompass. I don't want to necessarily rehearse that here, but my suggestion at this point would be to rename the forum "Garden History and Restoration." I think this would increase the number of visitors from people who search the internet for "garden history" links, while still leaving room to discuss the type of practical rejuvenation and restoration issues of interest to people who are dealing with old or overgrown gardens but may not be aiming for a historic restoration or not. A similar alternative would be "Garden History and Rejuvenation." As previous posts on this topic have suggested, there are a number of people interested in learning about garden history, but to have a good discussion, you need to draw in people with expertise and experience, in addition to we novices. I think adding "History" to the title stands a chance of doing this. As I recall, at one point, ginger_nh, the exuberant person who started this forum, contacted the former webmaster about a possible title change, but his view was to stick with the title that had been agreeed upon. In the interim, though, more time has passed, and Gardenweb has passed over to new management, who might be more amenable to such a request. But the important question is, what do others think? Any alternative proposals? Ginger, in particular, are you still out there? I'm willing to try to contact the mgmt folks if others support such a change. Best to all -- Kate

Well, let's see, we have three "yeas", zero "nays," and one doubting Thomas who have weighed in. :) INK, I can't promise that a name change will reinvigorate the forum, but is there a real downside to trying? As I think you've been trying to suggest, any forum is only as good and as active as the people who participate. The object of the name change is to try to draw more participants, perhaps with additional perspectives to contribute. It would be a relatively simple change for Garden Web to effect, and worse case scenario is that the name change has no effect on the current pace or nature of dialogue on the GW forum, so we're no worse off from where we started. I didn't mean to turn this into a rigidly parlementarian exercise. Reading over all of the posts above and on the earlier thread, I'm struck by the fact that everyone seems to agree that the GR forum has been fairly inactive lately, a number of people would welcome more historical discussion, and not a single person has weighed in to oppose a name change. On that basis, I'm ready to send an e-mail to GW management and see if they'd go for the proposed name change. I'll wait until Monday in case anyone wants to weigh in further here. Best to all -- Kate
