ISO Confederate Rose cuttings

I am so wanting to get a nice hedge row started of Conf. Rose and not picky as to color. Does anyone out there have any to spare. I will be happy to pay postage.... or I can exchange Buddleia cuttings.. Yellow, Purple and Pink.

Do you mean Hibiscus Mutabilis? If so, it's too late in the year to get good cuttings. Wait until about August to search. You want the hardened cuttings after the leaves have dropped, but before it gets cold. In your zone, 6/7, it will probably winter kill down to the ground every year. Are you sure that's what you want for a hedge row?

Hello,

Yes this is what I am looking for. I had a nice row of them at a previous residence and they were spectacular, but unfortunately, the new owner ripped them out with his tractor and they are no longer there.

I will try again in late summer.. I am quite happy to receive cuttings to root and then plant in early spring...

Yes Confederate Rose Cuttings can be made almost anytime of the year. I found that they start best in just a container of water set in a shaded area and forgotten. I used my cuttings for tomato supports. They had set for over a week, out of 12 3 sprouted. When I cannot give them away locally I just stick them into the ground anywhere that nothing is growing so now I have 6 plants blooming, if left in the ground they will be well over 6+ feet tall next year. If cut back to the ground after a freeze they will do find the next year.

This is what was recommended to me and it worked well. I rooted some CF in water after a bad storm, but had trouble getting them to transition into a soil environment. Someone on gardenweb suggested this and it works everytime (so far). Plant the cutting in very wet potting soil and let it dry out naturally (inside, not in sun, but bright light). Then water as needed and harden off outside. Somehow the really wet soil helps the roots to get acclimated to the soil. I've done a dozen this way with great success. It may take a little longer to get them in the garden this way, but it works. Hope this helps JR

This plant is very easy to root. I cut about 12 inch piece off and put in a bucket of water. It will root. I use to put several in a bucket and give them away. I had to cut my last one down as it had got to be too large and was in the way. Now I have to go and ask for a cutting.
