How much should I sell this grow light stand for?
Comments (4)I would love to have it! Although I'm not sure I can bamboozle my husband into it. He already thinks I'm totally out of control =). Would you please email me and let me know what part of the province you are in and if you have an idea of what you would like for the unit. I live in Centre Burlington, a ten minute from Windsor along the north shore. Many Thanks, Carrie...See MoreHow much should recessed lighting cost?
Comments (6)I almost fainted when I got my initial estimate for the recessed lighting in my house - 85 cans. It was 8500 dollars! That price included the wiring, the can, and trim kit. It worked out to 100 per can, 75 of which was labor and 25 was for can and trim kit which was not high quality hardware. I wound up installing all of the cans myself. I used higher quality hardware (e.g. JUNO) than the eletcrician standard and it was worth every penny. The juno cans come pre-nailed and were very easy to install. The hardest part was spotting where each can had to go to not only give me the lighting coverage, but also fit within the constraints of the webbed floor truss locations above. It turns out that this is not as easy as it might seem - I spent an entire day spotting amd marking where the cans needed to go. 150 per can seems a bit on the high end but if it includes quality hardware then it may be in line. AFter doing all the work myself installing my cans, I can see why they charge as much as they do....See MoreHow much fabric should I get for this quilt?
Comments (12)If you want this quilt to look like a scrap quilt, you're going to need more fabrics than you think you will need. Also, the sample shown in the link (which I love!) has the blocks made in blues and the creams are in the background. So when you say mauves and greens, do you mean there will be mauve blocks and green blocks plus a third color for the background? Or will the blocks be mauve and green together in one block? In my opinion, I think this quilt would look better with various shades of green for the blocks and various creams for the background. It looks like the creams are scrappy in the blocks also, which is a look I like. I would have one fabric for the first border (blue in the sample), second border ( light cream), third border (blue), and fourth border (darker cream than the second border). It may be that if you have to mix greens and mauves in each block, the quilt will take more time and effort than if you stick with one color and cream. I've seen the fine work you do, Robbi, and I'm sure what ever you make will turn out well. But you need to rethink her request for this quilt.......just my opinion. And I would never put a homemade quilt in a rental house. Teresa...See MoreSo how much should LED tape lighting cost?
Comments (12)DH installed our UCLs from Environmental Lights, but I can't find a record of how much they cost. Cheaper than some, for sure. We're fairly happy with them, though one stretch has a noticeably different color temp. It used to bother me, but I've gotten over it. We're currently working with Hitlights. We got all the tape lighting, connectors, and remote dimmer for a 48' tray ceiling for under $150! (Call Dylan, and he might just give you a 10% discount.) Installation was a snap, though cosmetics don't matter at all in a tray, so it probably would have taken more time and care for UCLs. Once again, however, we have a color temp problem. One string is much warmer than the other two. It bothers me a lot, and I don't think I'll get over this one. (Combined with our light blue coffers, the ceiling has a strange green glow near that one string. Not appealing at all.) I've emailed Hitlights about this, and hope for a good resolution. (Hmm, it's been a while with no response. I'd better call today...) One more thing: the Hitlight kit linked by elphaba probably doesn't have enough lumens per foot for UCLs. You might consider getting their high density strip if you're going with Hitlights. Also, if you go a la carte, you can buy a remote dimmer, rather than the manual one that comes with the kit. Good luck with your lighting decisions. That part of our reno was by far the most intimidating for me....See Moredocmom_gw
