Epsom Salt - Sensitive plants?
Comments (1)My dracs did not like the coffee treatment that was posted a month ago. The smaller Pleuros seem to be very sensitive to any additives. A light hand and special mix may be best if you feel they really need it...See MoreMagnesium deficiency & foliar Epsom Salt
Comments (6)That's interesting -- about the boron. Which fertilizers have that in them, and how does one find out if it's in a particular fertilizer? The fertilizers I use have a "guaranteed analysis" for the usual ingredients, but that that doesn't mean they don't also contain other stuff. My usual fertilizer is Biosol, label linked below, and the other one I commonly use is Magnum Rose Food, a water soluble, by Grow More. But sometimes I also use a micronutrient powder and now that I look, on its label I see it says it contains "10 ppm Boron", which raises the question, how much is too much -- Is that even a noticeable amount? Thanks Kathy Here is a link that might be useful: Biosol label...See MoreEpsom salt and Potassium to enhance cold hardiness
Comments (5)Some palm growers do use "salty" fertilizers at the beginning of possible frost seasons to make for a freezing point depression in the leaves. The idea is that if the water traveling within the plant is salty, it will freeze at a lower point than if it was pure water. I have heard that citrus growers use this to protect their fruit. Manganese sulfate (Epsom Salt) is used to cure frizzle top and other minor nutrient deficiencies. Potassium is the salt you would want a higher concentrate of to try the freeze test. I would put it down a few weeks before frost can become a concern. I honestly don't know if it works - I haven't had a frost for more than a few hours and nothing was harmed....See Moreepsom salt
Comments (9)I have applied it the leaves in a spray bottle to make greener leaves, but it hasn't worked to any great noticeable degree. I used perhaps too little. But it's magnesium sulfate, so you get sulfur and magnesium which plants need. But not too much is usually recommended. I have added it to the soil in watering, but with all the NPK feed I do on an otherwise routine regimen, who knows how much benefit epsom salts are doing. If you are attempting to make yellowing leaves revive from overwatering by using epsom salts solutions -- forget it....See Morekenya1
