I joined National Home Gardening Club in 2006: big mistake. This club is a scam.

First I got the invitation to join the club on Âtrial" but then I received the invoice to pay membership for two years and without giving any chance to test the "club.

Then I started to receive unsolicited books: I had to buy the first two because I was out of town and by the time I was back the "deadline " to send the books back was passed. In the meanwhile I sent them several letters asking for not sending me books anymore.

They took 8 months to answer me back that they were considering my requirement to quit shipping booksÂ.In the meanwhile I received another one (30$ value), which I returned to sender. As there is not prepaid mail return due I had to pay for the postal service: almost 20$ to return something I had never asked for! Basically NHGC put you in the position of being forced to buy the books as returning them cost more than buying.

Anyway, try guess? Since February I keep receiving notices that I have to pay for the book. Again I sent letters stating that the book was returned: I have never got any reply from them, except notices asking to pay for the debt, and threatening to resort to collection agency. I tried also to call their number (member services:1-800-324-8454). Every time "all the lines are experiencing heavy traffic of calls, so please call again the day afterÂ."

I am going to call the Better Business Bureau.

I see in this forum that a lot of other people have experienced the same problem: How have you dealt with NHGH? Your input is appreciated.

I'm a member of the Home Gardening Club and have found this magazine/club very helpful over the years. I'm now a life member. You are right about one aspect of them though they are aggressive about there special offers. Make sure you return for sale merchandise your not interested in or they'll bill you. Well worth the price. Sorry you had trouble.

I fell for this too!! I went to pay what WAS supposed to be a $12 membership fee, the link in the email took me to a supposed secure payment site where I was being charged $24 for a 2 year membership, I went ahead and input my AMEX card info, I didn't receive any confirmation of my payment, my membership, receipt...NOTHING!!! Within a 2 hour period of time I receive a call, a text and an email from AMEX regarding possible fraudulent charges. The $24 never charged to my account, but $620.57 from RadioShack in NY was charged. WTF??? THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS!!! BEWARE!!!

ditto all of the above. I did a year's membership, and got some good 'newbie' information and magazine, a couple of tester products, and some seeds, and one book. The book was nice, and I was ok with the $9 investment for that, but the subsequent books they wanted $26 for. (And incidently, I found a partial set of these on eBay for about $4). Live & learn...it's ok, but not something I wanted to continue. I get more info here. If you DO decide to join, then decide to opt-out, you CAN cancel the books coming to your house (and they will send you a return label if you ask for one), and only the other stuff will come. But like I said, it was ok for 'starter' information; I'm ready to move on.

Hey ya'll, I am a member of the NHGC. I have been for several years. I have even tested a few items for them with no problem. I have never been sent anything I din't sign up for and love their magazine. I have also made a lot of friends over the years especially the gals on the Louisiana board. I have also had a lot of good seed swaps with folks all over the country and a special friend in Canada. They have recently made a lot of changes on their site most which we don't like to say the least. Garden Web has more forums to chose from and I have enjoyed it very much. If it weren't for the friends I've made at NHGC I wouldn't continue to renew my membership. Any way there's my 2 cents. Years ago I helped run the Gardening Forum on CompuServe and I remember a lot of negative comments but no positive. Both the Northwest Perennial Alliance and Northwest Hort Society are good for speakers and classes and garden tours. Also, you're pretty close to Bellevue Botanical Garden and could volunteer there once in a while for a learning experience.

You may heard about the National Home Gardening Club Scam but don't have exactly any idea about it. Well, the National Home Gardening Club is a membership that advertises wonderful and great benefits to whoever will join their club whether for online or offline.

This club solicits vast amount of money for those people who join the club. Basically, women and home-based moms are the people who mostly join the club especially those women who love and enjoy doing scrap booking and craft projects.

The National Home Gardening Club Scam is usually done both via online and offline. Apparently, post mail would always be the best method done by this club.

The club will be generous enough in sending their exclusive membership offers to their targeted women whereas the membership fees would only cost twenty dollars or more.

In exchange for the membership fee there would be several key benefits to be provided. Among these benefits include a one-year subscriptions on the official magazine of the club that also includes step by step guides for high quality crafts and arts, some surprise free gifts, and last of the benefits is you would be come a product tester.
