Thanks Mandyvilla. Yes, it's full sun. The climber is pink, as is one of the tea roses, though two of the three teas don't look too healthy. The other is a pretty yellow, so I could really go any way with the colors. I would love to put in perennials, but I don't want to spend too much money, and I'm concerned the smaller perennials that I could afford won't fill in quickly enough to make a nice show when the house is on the market. Unfortunately, around me there are very few sales until much later in the season. I checked out Lowes yesterday and got a nice Butterfly bush, a fairly big Cleome, a phlox David and a daisy. But I still thought the prices were a little high. The David may stay with me. I realized I have more that I can give away than I thought. A Lychnis that doesn't really like it here, a bunch of Rudbeckia, some daylilies, etc. I think I'll be able to get a few zinnias or snaps, some impatiens for the shady side of the house, and maybe some calibrichoa as an edger. I think I'll be able to get it filled in. Luckily, it's a tiny lot.

Bay is nice, some people have trouble with it suckering. Could be due to incorrect planting. Strawberry Tree do you mean Arbutus unedo? Do you want to see the soles of my shoes that are full of mashed fruit? Lovely, lovely tree, but It's messy as hell when that fruit falls. Fruit attracts rodents, too. Ah! I guess I DID find one! I passed on it because this year I'm going with cooler colored flowers (and coleus). I'm mainly going with chocolate mint and watermelon coleus (approx. 12", I think). But THANK YOU so much for the suggestion! It is truly appreciated. I think next year I may leave Burpee for one of the cheaper seed companies. From what I hear, people love their seedlings/when grown just as well. But I'll ALWAYS get Burpee's 4th of July tomato. I've never found one better for our Missouri climate, amazingly early, endless production, and edible at one sitting-sized tomatoes. Dang, I love them. Unless, of course...they improve upon it! i know its 'common' but you can't beat one of the fragrant hostas-- aphrodite. great leaves all summer. then beautiful fragrant white flowers in august. some of the iris might take shade and still bloom, but hardiness could be a problem. star of bethlehem is cute in the spring (start of june), but can be invasive. foxgloves would like medium shade and sweet woodruff would be a nice ground cover for you, so would european ginger. columbines, bunneria, lobelia pansies--violas,primroses (hardiness), there are some clematis that are short/non-vining types(hardiness), perennial bachaleor buttons. diggerb
