Peace in Chicago and Elsewhere

Wow, Summer is exploding here in my garden. Nineties + are envogue for the next several days and I am pouring water to everything. Here are some samples of the explosion..............hope you enjoy and thanks for looking !!!!!

I think it's a considerable long shot in zone 4, so give it your most protected area. Some folks in your zone and colder grow tender roses like this in pots then wheel the pot into a protected garage or something for the winter. For me, this is too much like work, but you can ask Carol who grows in Canada zone 3 if you want to try this method (I think she's rosecanadian as her log in). Chicago Peace has been less hardy than Peace for me in zone 5, and has never overwintered even in a protected zone 6 pocket of my yard. I'm all for zone pushing and sometimes roses will surprise you, but don't get your hopes up. If it's grafted or a potted plant, rose crazy is right that you'll need to bury the graft deeply. Some winter protection like piling mulch around the base of the rose might help, but I have my doubts however much you protect this one. Always worth a try, but don't invest much. Cynthia

I had one some years ago but workers killed it when building a new deck. Just ordered another from David Austin as it was one of my favorites. My experience with it was very favorable. It was in mostly all day sun, tho shaded somewhat in afternoon by a tall crepe myrtle. It grew tall for me - a strong bush. I look forward to growing it again and am sure you will have good luck with it. Judith

Ben...Wow!!!! Just one bush and it's that big. HHhhhmmm...might have to put it somewhere else. 'Dream Time' what a great name for a rose. I really like that baby pink color Is it also ht? Bustopher, I can only imagine what that bad for that long must be like. I grew up in the middle of the desert in Nevada and it was hot and all but we had water :-(

Chicago Peace undergoes so many subtle color changes and they are all beautiful. You have captured well her many color-moods!

All the pics are lovely, but Chicago Peace is the star.

Thanks guys......I agree that CP makes picture taking easy ;-)

I have tried so many options to circle my front fountain. This year I am experimenting with alternating those two sedums. If I like them there once they bloom, I'm going to add maybe Sweet Williams next year. This is a pic of what it kind of looks like........

Wow!!! Those sedums look great there. Who knew? I would never have tried them.

Your Chicago Peace pics are truly stunning!!! Of course, so is Abe, LDB and Ginger!!! But that Chicago Peace !!! Gah!!!! Drool!!!! Love the bouquets as always!!

Boxofrox, These pics are truly the chocolates of the eye-candy. This is all so beautifull. I really like the blue hydrangea next to the white/green variegated foliage.

I love your photos! My Chicago Peace is generally darker-colored here in the High Desert of Northern Arizona. I have a challenging climate for roses; still I enjoy growing lots. More of my Chicago Peace photos are in the linked article.
