Jay, what is your favorite of the Goliath Series? Did the Old Fashioned Goliath live up to it's namesake? I really liked Bush Goliath when I grew it last year. It had very good flavor. Including this year, I will have experiance growing Bush Goliath and Early Goliath. Bill, I don't know what was up with the green coloring but I actually was pushing the limit on that fruit being over ripe. The flavor was very good though. I've got two plants of that variety in the garden this year. Right now, I'm okay with keeping up with harvested tomatoes - eating in salads or just like they are. But in about two weeks, as happens every year, I'll be overwhelmed with tomatoes, and will end up keeping several folks supplied (LOL). Jay

Mark, I'm glad to see you confirming what I and others have said. There's no way that you would remember my name but you and I have had several chats on the phone, the one I remember most was when the parents of Moreton Hybrid were "lost", and then found again. I also remember asking you why they stopped producing Starpak F1, which I loved. I was raised on a farm in Loudonville, NY and in those days, I'll be 73 next month, the Harris "man" came to the house and discussed with my father what was new, and took his order right at the house. When those home visits stopped there was a store in Menands, NY, not far away at the Menands Market, where one could buy Harris Seeds and all sorts of other items from shovels to you name it. So I guess you could say that I've known of Harris Seeds for at least 60 years or so and to date have always been impressed with the quality of seeds, bar none. No order this year b'c I have enough seeds for this year, I think. ( smile) Carolyn ( Male), also pleased that Harris became independent once again after the short term association with Moran Seeds. And also upset that she never got a chance to get your fields in Rochester b'c she spent quite a few years at the Med Center there getting an advanced degree in Microbiology ( infectious diseases) and wishing she could remember the name of one of the larger dept stores downtown that sold THE best cheesecake ever.LOL I think they're gone now ( could it have been McCurdy and____ or something like that, but her love for NY style cheesecake goes on forever. LOL

You can get them rather cheaply at Walmart when the season starts but then I'd worry a little about disease since last year was a disaster with store bought tomato plants. I've been absolutely no help to you I know but when I see Jet Star it catches my eye they are my (only) favorite hybrid tomato with super production and taste. I can only tell you what I've surfed the internet to find out in the last months (JS is in my starts and just has two seed leaves getting ready for this autumn). Next season I'll know if you want to wait on my reply :-) I understood Jet Star F1 hybrids are fairly compact indeterminates: meaning depending on the nutrition they can easily be more than 6 feet tall, but not 10 feet tall which is what I usually get to when it is time to pull indeterminate plants here. Cherokee Purple is also fairly compact for me and doesn't make more than 6-8 feet, so that is my going equivalent for Jet Star. 6-7 feet is the threshold for me to plant in two different setups I'm using, so I did my best to estimate that mine would likely make that based on the comments of other growers, all second hand so I'd be interested to hear these comments since it is currently set to go to the "talls" place which is in higher demand and much more costly space-wise for me. There are several JS fans who have grown it for many years who post here so hopefully we can hear from one or two of them. I notice JS seems especially popular in the midwest but not much around about how it does with heat set and in Florida (which is why it is on my short autumn season's list) I noticed Bonnie Plants says 4-5 feet which I kind of ignored since their numbers seem to always underestimate height to make the plants more attractive to three prong Big Box store cages.
