Sansevieria/Snake Plant-- New Leaf or Baby?
Comments (12)I have my Sans in glazed ceramic pots but like Inna mentioned with watering with those, I'm really careful how I water. What works for me is sticking a toothpick in the soil. If you pull it out and you see any soil stuck to the toothpick, it's still moist. Kind of like cooking brownies! Also, at what point the soil sticks to the toothpick is an indicator as to how far down the pot moisture is still present. That works for me, I usually wait until I don't see any soil appear on the stick (or in the case of one of my Sans whose pot is too deep to go all the way to the bottom of the pot with the toothpick, I just go as far as I can if if I even see a small glimpse of soil on the tip, I wait another week... you might have to wait longer than a week, it all depends on how deep your pot is... for me it's waiting another week because my pot is only about 5 inches deep) before watering again. Others may suggest methods of watering that works for them, perhaps they will be better or easier for you to do, but this works for me. Comments (6)Thank you, woodnative and Stush! Well, that's good news and bad news, isn't it? You may be right about the leafs being physically damaged. In fact, I had new blinds installed last summer, and had to use them often and hastily (as the facade of our house is getting a makeover, which means strange men right in front of our third-story windows and lots of noise, which my dog does not find amusing at all). Btw., that also means that my plants got much less light... :( But these circular spots worry me. I'm always paranoid about pests or diseases spreading to other plants, as I don't have another room (with natural light) for quarantine. So I tend to panic about these things. When I was new to cacti, I once threw away a beautiful Matucana Madisoniorum because of what I later learned were very common cork spots... Now I wonder, if the other rosette is really free of these spots, should I cut it off, repot and discard the spotty one?...See MoreSansevieria trifasciata Daria broken leaf
Comments (5)This is a tall variety and has ridges in the leaves and horizontal stripes. I probably should have stuck it in it's own pot. I am curious if the leaves will have the ridges....See MoreSansevieria pinguicula propagation from leaf after 10 months!
Comments (12)Hopefully you got good leaf stock to start out with. Clean cut and let dry for no longer then a week. No heat due to drying out the leaf. I do best in summer months and putting the cut away in a glass with about one inch of perlite and forgetting about it. Maybe once in a long while a little spray of water now and then. Kept in shade not bright light. Seems if I care about it too much they rot, forget about it and they live. Woodnative gave out several leaf cuttings rooted and with sprouts several years ago of S. Lavranos '23251' a very similar plant that grew slowly but large. My Pinguicula is extremely slow....See MoreRelated Professionals
