Rejuvenating a Mother-ij-Law's Tongue

This plant has been dragging out a sad existence in a dark corner of an office. Finally I couldn't stand it any more and brought it home for surgery. It has been overpotted and overwatered to the point that all the roots seem to have rotted away. There are a couple of dry crownish bits without any leaves. A number of leaves turned brown at the base and fell off. There is one section which seems to be alive and growing new leaves, but it has hardly any roots at all.

I have taken the one live section and repotted it in a much smaller pot in a mixture of vermiculite, perlite, and sphagnum. I am keeping it in my bathroom, which has a skylight and is a bright but not sunny space. I potted one crownish bit in a smaller pot and am keeping it outside, to see if it will produce any leaves.

What do you think -- am I doing the right thing?
