Salvia greggii 'Teresa'

Has anyone out there managed to collect any seeds of this salvia, would dearly love to try it.

Although it is patented, the progeny is allowable to be sold, as long as it is given another name. There is a risk that you might not get the same plant, anyway. A lot of these selfed, or more likely cross-pollinated greggiis are going to be very variable.

I have a greggii that I call San Rafael Salmon. Every seedling from it (open pollinated) has come up different in habit and flower color.

Its ok I just would love to try it. chances are it probably wont come true but you dont know if you dont try.Does it set seeds?

Mutabilis: To me it has no scent, but the colors of the petals are really lovely, and it's a very attractive bush. My young-ish plant withstood two separate weeks of night-time temperatures in the teens with hardly ANY evidence of damage, it didnt even drop its leaves! And...it now has buds! Mrs. Oakley Fisher is so pretty- that color! it's the kind of thing that the "NO HT" snobs really miss out on. Trivia- it was one of Vita Sackville-West's favorite roses. Another lovely antique single is Irish Fireflame- the coloring is similar to Mutabilis- apricot/pink- but with a a great scent! I attached a link to a fantastic picture on HMF. Something else that I think is really pretty is Jacqueline du Pre, which is single/semi-double and has a strong musk scent. The flowers are white, with prominent pink stamens, which makes for a very attractive contrast. this is a picture from last summer, when the petals were past their prime, but you can get the idea. Um, is Adk = Adirondack? It really helps with advice if both petitioners and advice givers give more details, like locations and USDA zones. Soil types and drainage ifo is also useful. I just did a quick tour of the J C Raulston Arboretum's Salvia collection, and most of their sages made it. Exceptions were Cherry Chief (last year, it was a bit sparse from old age and needed replacement, anyway), S. chionophylla, S. microphylla deltoid-leaved, and S. mexicana Limelight. I would have expected these to die off anyway. Greggii survivors include: Grace Pink, Red Letter, Viva, Diane, Dark Dancer, Pink Preference, Teresa, Flame, and Lipstick. Both S. regla Jame (Coahuila) and the Huntington BG form are healthy. And the S. microphylla San Carlos Festival was huge and lush.

Thanks, Rich and Brenda. I sent the info about Plants Delights on to these folks from Texas who were asking; perhaps they can order a plant or two from them on-line. My own 6 plants are doing quite well, but seem to need more water than the average greggii..... of course, most of mine are so old they probably have roots straight into the aquifer. ;^)

Its more of a trait with the native types which produce more seeds. I don't find it a problem, they pull out quite easily and its mostly a spring event, definitely not invasive. I find uses for the seedlings in difficult areas and consider them free plants. I've lined the whole west no-mans land side with them because they will grow well in that awful dirt two feet in on the neighbors side along his neglected property line which I try to maintain so I don't have to look at weeds and tree saplings. They crossbreed very easily so you never know what you will get and you can easily have a naturally occurring hybrid spring up in your own garden. I got a white blooming plant a couple years ago from a chance seedling, I thought that was cool.

I'm pretty sure it does. Any seed I might send you might have some pretty wild crosses, so good luck! There may be some seed this spring, provided that the weather cooperates.

I'm hoping to get some seed of the scarlet form of Salvia dichlamys. This one promises to be a monster performer. The big, thirsty mother plant is growing like a weed and trying to resume blooming already, along with Salvia sp. SL411 (sect. Biflorae).

Thanks Richard, will be looking forward to the seeds if they are forthcoming.

My salvia dichlamys hasnt flowered as of yet.

Salvia Sl411 is a monster and flowers all year round, its cousin salvia squalens is in bud so eagerly awaiting for the flowers.

Salvia caymanensis is setting a lot of seeds so will be sending some of shortly.

I had seeds of S. dichlamys from Mexico last year... would be unkind if I were to refer to it as a thug.....but it is!!!

Extremely floriferous, lovely scarlet flowers. We had such a crazy summer last year, 4 seasons in a day for 2 months (London is NOT always like this) Don't think that it survived winter outside, too early to tell, but cuttings taken in August are flowering. Another form of dichlamys, discovered 3 or 4 years ago, given the spurious name of Salvia c.f. darcyi, (NOTHING like darcyi) is an altogether better plant here, not quite such a thug, and is a great addition to a summer border.

What on earth has this do do with 'Teresa'?

Teresa appears to be a lovely greggii/microphylla cultivar...there are so many...but the new one known as 'Peter Vidgeon' may just be the best of all! This is sublime!!!
