A Summer Dream Of A Day

It was just gloriously beautiful this last week-end. About 79 degrees and brilliant, with an ocean breeze.

Just Joey and a just brilliant sky, is just incredible!

Of all hybrid-teas, this is my favorite.

Does'nt that peachy color against that blue sky, say

summer?

Collette, oh Collette, she is an enchantress in the

garden. Making the garden, ever more lovely.

Pink!!! The true color of romance!!!

My favorite floribunda(Our Lady Of Guadaloupe).

The very pink rose "First Prize"

The pinkness of a hydrangea flower.

You know it's summer when the flowers and smooth

scent of Plumeria are in the garden.

These are like lavender crystals in the garden.

(CLEMATIS HAGLEY HYBRID)

Bright flowers in very bright sun.

I added this Pic of rosemary 'cause I love to

put rosemary in the rose garden.

And of course, Jack, my constant garden companion.

oh Jack is too handsome!! We took our girls and puppies to the beach today - yes I said puppies - we are puppy sitting one of Bella's litter mates for a week - it's so much fun! Unfortunately it was pretty foggy (typical San Francisco weather) but it was warm though so we still were able to hang out for a while.

Your roses are gorgeous Devon - love the picture with the lighthouse as well. Plumeria is one of my favourite plants, my paternal grandparents had about 20 really old plants at their house and I spent many a childhood afternoon on top of them (they were about 30 feet with lovely spreading branches perfect for climbing).

Seeing the first pic makes me want to fly over
just to stand and look over at that beautiful view.

Your roses and flowers are stunning, lots of vibrant colors

I like cosmos too, but have never heard of the Summer Dreams type. I know that some stores rename certain varieties on their own to try to make them more saleable. This coud be the case, or like you thought; it could be a label mistake.

Bellaroma, Summer of Love, Malibu, Dream Come True -Any Comments?

I grow Summer of Love, Malibu, and Dream Come True. All three of them have been good roses for me so far. Summer of Love and Malibu are just second year bushes for me. I got them as part of last years J&P Hybrid Tea Test Rose Panel. Both did quite nicely for me. Some people had trouble with bullnose blooms on Malibu, but my flowers opened with no problems. I wondered if it is the environment they are growing in. These two overwintered in my unheated garage in their respective pots and I transplanted them both into the garden early this Spring. They seem to like where they are as they are breaking dormancy well and really putting on new canes and lots of good foliage. Dream Come True has the best bush of the three and maybe in my whole garden. It grows to a nice rounded full-foliaged shape without me having to prune it that way. And, the flowers are quite nice as well. I bought it already potted up from a nursery two years ago and transplanted it directly into the garden and it does well even over the winter with no added protection. John

Heliopsis 'Midwest Dreams' vs. 'Summer Sun'

'Midwest Dreams' is a seed strain and its colour can vary from yellow to nearly orange, not on the same plant, of course. It may not be as vigorous as 'Summer Sun'. The flowers on 'Midwest Dreams' seem to also vary, from single to semi-double. Overall, I would recommend 'Summer Sun'. It has been around longer, and in my opinion, is a more reliable plant. I have another heliopsis named 'Ballerina' that is similar to the other two, and one I like very much.

It's incorrectly labeled. Two large buds dropped. They had not begun to open but were big enough to pull apart to see what was inside. Both were quads. I'm actually happier that it has multiple skirts but it wasn't developed enough to know what color it is. I just hope it's not another pink. There's a few more large buds but I doubt there will be time for them to open, even if they don't drop. The plant is inground and will have to be cut back and lifted, probably this weekend : (

Your roses are lovely-----the pictures of the lighthouse inspires me to paint that view.

You have a lovely collection of roses and I love your puppy---We had a German Sheppard when the chuldren were young and we never had to worry about them playing in the front yard.

Sigh! I can only wish! Your first photo looks like an oil painting and all the others are soooo beautiful too. Jack is a very handsome guy who apparently likes to have his photo taken. What a dream!!!!

Thank's everyone, for the comments. I knew it was gonna
be a crystal clear, summer day when I got up last Sat. and
Sun. It was bright, cheerful and very summery. It just
lifted me up when I looked outside my bedroom windows.

Here's a pic I took Sun. morning when I woke up.

Aprille, thank's for the nice words. You must have
great memories of your grandparents plumeria plants.
Wow, 30ft. tall ones, must of looked incredible. They
are so tropical and the flowers have a clean scent.
I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the pic of the flowers of
it. Jack says thank you for the compliment, by the way.

Niecey, It's an inspiring view there, with the light-
house nearby. That's the spot, I often will take a pic
at, when taking one around where I live. There are lots
of incredible views around here though. Thank's for all
your beautiful comments.

Zeffyrose(Florence), you are very sweet. I hope you do
paint that view and your roses as well. I like your
flower arrangements in your wonderful collection of
vases. Are'nt German Shepards great dogs? I love them
and Golden Retriever's best.

be even more of a dream, if I had even more garden space
for roses though(LOL).

Devon, could you please tell me the name of the rose in the picture titled bright flowers in a brighter sun? It looks like a climber and is absolutely gorgeous and breath taking. I just bought Our Lady of Guadalupe and love how it lights up the garden. Thank you so much for sharing all your wonderful pictures, it was a pleasure.

Dear ingrid vc, thank you for such nice comments. The rose
in bright sun is Rosarium Ueterson. It is a climber and
even more beautiful in person. It blooms in clusters, has
a light apple fragrance and old-fashioned, ruffled blooms
in a color between strawberry red/pink and dark coral pink.
Stays completely healthy in my no-spray garden. And it can
do great in just four hours of sun. Love it!!!
Your right about Our Lady Of Guadaloupe, it is a gem of a
floribunda rose. It really does light up the garden.
It was nice hearing from you Ingrid.
