NEW: Acres Edible seed swap

Howdee,

It's time again for an edible seed swap as I have put on years in the past. Last one I put pn over 45 people and over 1500 seed packages were involved and a lot of fun was had by all. This will be for all edible items typically grown in a veggie garden.

SOME BASIC RULES

All seeds must produce edibles. (veggie, herbs and fruit found in an edible garden)

All seeds must be clearly marked and packed correctly.

All seed packages should contain enough seed to try out that particular edible.

You will receive at least the amount of packages you send in most likely more..

You must send a wish list if your except to receive certain seeds back.

You must attach the correct amount of postage to the self addressed stamped bubble mailer or address labels and stamps to get the mailer back to you.

You must send your full name on the mailer , mailing address, garden web name and email address on a card or added to your lists. This helps me a lot. Emailing it too me works as well

A list of seeds you sent is recommenced. This helps so you donÃ¢ÂÂt get your own seeds back..

One person must not send in more than 5 copies of one certain seed.

One person must not send in more than 70 seed packages.

all mailers are due at my house by February 14th. Packages will be filled in order of arrival.

Sorry for all the rules it just makes a better and more organized swap and a lot easier if rules are involved. With only my self doing the swap as much information I can get is the best.

Please post here if you are interested. I will email you full informaton on the swap once I get your email address. This should be a fun one. 90 % of the seeds on my seed swap will go into this swap.

We are up too 37 people and mailers are comming in daily. Lots and lots of yummies are arriving beans, corns, okras, peppers , herbs, squashes, and much more

Acres, My seeds came today or yesterday (I was out of town)!! Thank you so much for such a great selection of edibles. I can't wait to grow them!! Now you said that I had the most organized list but I just printed out my very long wish list from GardenWeb because I couldn't decided what I wanted most! I forgot what recipes I sent in, but here's a couple for tomatoes, peppers and one for a zucchini yeast bread. Panzanella This is an Italian bread salad. The Italians make it to use up stale bread. I make it to use up cherry tomatoes (I use halved cherry tomatoes). Ingredients Salad 1 1⁄2 pounds ripe tomatoes (about 3) 1 shallot, minced 4 cloves garlic, minced 1⁄3 cup extra-virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar 1 tablespoon kosher salt 1 cup fresh basil leaves Panzanella croutons Freshly ground black pepper Panzanella Croutons ¼ cup unsalted butter 1 tablespoon minced garlic 6 cups cubed day-old bread (½-inch cubes) Salt and ground black pepper to taste 6 tablespoons finely grated Parmesan Core the tomatoes and, if large, cut them into chunks; if small, halve or quarter them (I slice the cherry tomatoes in half). Toss them gently with the shallot, garlic, oil, vinegar, 1 tablespoon salt, and pepper. Set aside until the tomatoes are very juicy, about 10 minutes. Add croutons and give a give toss. Tear the basil over the salad and toss gently. (The bread salad can be served now or set aside at room temperature for a couple of hours.) For the croutons, preheat oven to 375 degrees F and preheat a cookie sheet in it. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat and cook until it foams. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add the bread cubes and toss to coat with the butter. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer the bread to a baking sheet. Immediately sprinkle with the cheese and toss again while warm to melt the cheese. Bake, stirring once or twice, until the croutons are crisp and lightly colored on the outside but still soft within, about 8 or 9 minutes. Let cool. Store in an airtight container. Tortellini Salad with Pine nuts This recipe is from Picnic! By Edith Stovel. This serves 8. Ingredients Salad 2 lbs fresh tortellini pasta (spinach, cheese or mushroom fillings work well) 1 cup green bell pepper, chopped 1 cup red bell pepper, chopped 1 cup green onion, chopped ½ cup pine nuts ½ cup chopped fresh basil ¼ cup chopped fresh dill ¼ cup chopped grated parmesan cheese Dressing ¼ cup balsamic vinegar 1 garlic clove, minced ¼ teaspoon salt Ground black pepper ¾ cup olive oil Follow directions for cooking tortellini. Drain and place in a large bowl. Mix in remaining salad ingredients. For dressing, combine vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Whisk in oil until well combined. Pour dressing over tortellini and chill. Zucchini Bread This is a little more work than the quick version. In the heart of zucchini season, youll enjoy this bread fro a change. This recipe is adapted from a Taste of Home flyer. Makes 1 loaf. 1 tablespoon dry active yeast ½ cup warm water ⅓ cup warm milk ⅓ cup sugar 3 tablespoons butter, softened 2 tablespoons grated orange peel ½ teaspoon salt 1 ½ cups shredded zucchini ⅓ cup raisins ¾ cup whole wheat flour ¾ cup all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (or a blend of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and mace) 1 ⅔ to 2 ⅓ cups bread flour In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Beat in the milk, sugar, butter, and orange peel. Mix well. Add the zucchini, raisins whole wheat floor, all-purpose flour, salt and pumpkin pie spice. Add enough bread flour to form a soft dough. Knead the dough on a floured surface (5-10 minutes) until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 ½ hours). Punch down dough and shape into a loaf. Place into a greased 9x5x3 inch pan. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees F for 40 to 45 minutes.

Howdee there Awesome time off with the hubby. We had a lovely well deserved vacation on the coast. My mom has a house in Crescent city and she is always wanted me to come and use it but hubby and I just love Gold beach. I am so happy all the mailers are getting back home and with such speed. I only host these two swaps and they are more fun each year. With this being the 10th year for the Acres Edible swap I really wanted it to be out standing. In past years there has been trivia and awards and such fun. Perhaps next year :) Now its off to sort seeds from my seed orders for my garden season. I will start my tomatoes and peppers, eggplant etc. next month. I grow about 200 extra plants each year and sell them locally. With the 100 assorted plants I start each year for my self for my garden it sure becomes a jungle in the green house. Happy gardening Acres

I've packed up the seeds I have right now. I'm a little embarassed to admit *blush* that it's all just standard varieties. Nothing really special.

But when that seed order of mine comes in I'll have a few really neat things to throw in the mix. Yeah!

This is my first seed swap like this folks, so keep your eye on the packs from Rebecca150 and give me feed back about the way they are packed, if the quantity of seeds is appropriate and if the seeds are of a useful varity for general purposes. I'd really appreciate it if you would kindly let me know if I screw anything up! I'm reading the rules and faq's, etc, to try to do it right the first time but please do let me know!

I got your mailed wish list with 4 more packs with a total seed pack total of 50.

We have 46 Participants and I have been organizing the packages as they come in. I have recieved 20 mailers so far. I will start filling mailers the night of the 14th of Feb. and get them back out to you a few days after. Mailers are filled in order that they arive.

I think your good. Its an adiction to swap and trade seeds and I have it too. Just think it keeps us sain in the winter when there is 8 inches of snow in sunny northern California. :-) After this swap is over I may do a all tomato and pepers swap if I get enough interest.

Ten days to go to get those seeds to me. Here is updated list of mailers received. All that have sent in mailers are doing wonderfully with packaging and organization. Im loving that fact.

Dixie The dead line to get the seeds to me is a week away so its sorta too late sorry. lets hope you can make my next swap of only tomaotes and pepers that will be posted in a week or so.

Mmmicked I got your seeds today great selection of dry beans we should do a trade later :-)

The rest of you that have signed up and not mailed your seeds its only a week then I will be packaging up mailers and getting this swap all sent out for all those lovely yummy edible gardens this year. Please let me know if you are unable to make the dead line. I would hate for some one to miss the great selection of seeds this year.

Just a heads up Acres, Monday is a holiday. I think the PO will be closed. Better plan on sending out the mailers on Tuesday. Can't wait to receive my trade!

A couple things here

Fliptx, I got your mailer with 22 pks in it. Great selection too.

Booberry, I just remembered that monday in a holiday. I have planned to get the swap in order and mail the mailers back some time early next week. I am still waiting on a few people that needed a bit more time.

I also have just asked for interest in an all tomato and pepper swap. There is a post in the round robin forum and the tomato and the pepper exchage. I would like to get at least around 10 people so it is a decent sized swap. The more the merrier is what they alway say Right?
