Growing in Australian Winter?

Hi everyone.

I've been growing some jalapeño and cayenne peppers over spring/summer here, and I'm thinking about getting some more varieties going (from seed). However, with winter about 5 months away, what I'm trying to find out is how well different varieties can handle cold weather. I'm about 40km west of Brisbane, Qld, and while our winter weather is pretty mild, we do usually get a couple of frosts (not many, I'd say we had less than 5 last last winter). Will a night of freezing (only 1 or 2 degrees below 0 celcius) weather kill the plants?

I figure daytime temperatures of 20 - 25 degrees (68 - 77 Fahrenheit) shouldn't be a problem, so all I have to worry about are the cold nights we get sometimes? What, if any, varieties will grow in these conditions? Are there any that I should avoid?

Thanks,

Ian
