propagating from commercial rosemary cuttings? and basil seed jel
Comments (3)Once the basil seed has been exposed to water it turns gelatinous and will usually not be good. Some folks use a modified greenhouse for woody cutting like rosemary. A small plastic tent with sticks to keep it open and airy. Plastic soda bottles can be made to work as well by cutting in half 3/4 of the way thru and use a smaller container inside the bottle or punch drain holes in bottom of bottle. I mostly mist cutting after I have stuck them and in a few weeks to a month I have some top and root growth. Open the cap at the top for more ventalation and do keep in a shady area while in the (mini-greenhouse:) so you don't steam cook your cuttings. Basil can be grown from cutting as well and maybe if fresh from store this would be more effective for you than using the flowers heads that have been misted and have turned jelly-like already. Comments (2)Hi Colombian, that is a lovely Crown you have. You definitely have some sort of pest nibbling on your plant. I would visually inspect the underside of each leaf. It could be mites which are not always visible. Are there any other signs such as webbing which looks like melted marshmallows? hopefully some of the folks with more pest experience will chime in soon. Tracy...See MorePropagation from cutting
Comments (4)Now that is a very cute bunch of roots. I would be inclined to pot it soon, because the sooner you pot it, the less likely you are to damage the roots. You would be best to choose a very good quality potting mix that is for acid-loving plants. And a nice, clean pot, not too big or you run the risk of over-watering your plant. Perhaps a 4" pot. Always water well immediately after potting. It is the most important watering that you'll ever do. And saturate the soil mix. After that, water only when you 'have the feeling' that your should. And I would also spray it overhead with a mist spray because I like to fuss. Never leave water sitting in the saucer. (The only time to leave water in the saucer is when trying to re-wet potting mix that has become too dry. But in that instance, it is better to use a bucket. And the other exception to having water in a saucer is if you are watering from underneath, which you won't be doing.) I don't go along with the theory of checking the top whatever of the mix to test when to water. I like to lift the pot and judge how much water it is holding. I agree that the description of the flower makes it sound like Camellia japonica 'Debutante'. Good luck....See MoreChrysanthemum. Identify? Propagate from Cut flower?
Comments (10)No, it won't work like that Suzi - while an annual will rebloom if deadheaded if in the ground, and therefore make seed, because it is now detached from its original roots, that option is just not open to it anymore because it cannot produce the energy to make new roots on the end of a flowering stem. A cutting taken from an appropriate leaf node, possibly but once flowering is initiated, the programme must run through to the end. It is metabolically programmed to grow, bloom and seed in one season....See Moremark4321_gw
