Voles vs pocket gophers

This isn't the best photo but I'm fairly certain these are voles. They are social creatures that make cute little peeping noises and were much smaller than the pocket gopher I caught. The voles had shiny black eyes instead of the milky white creepy eyes the pocket gopher had and preferred to eat roots and bulbs. The pocket gopher prefers to saw plants off at ground level and pull them down into their lair to eat them. The burrows, holes and tailings differ between the two animals.

I would have made a fine scientist with my observation skills. Ha ha.

Its a terrible photo but I think they are voles. Do you have an opinion, Digit? Thank you for setting me straight on these pesky rodents.
