A few pics from my newly planted roses

Flowers off my tree rose. I can't remember the actual species. Does anyone know? This will be the last tree rose I buy. It is too top heavy and I have to keep propping it up

Showbiz - seems to be doing pretty good in this location despite some leaf yellowing. The soil is fairly loamy and it gets afternoon sun.

Citrus Splash. It's doing GREAT in this pot. I'm going to remove the vinca's soon. I just put them in there to fill in while the rose established itself. Anyway, it's in a spot where it gets sun pretty much all day.

Americana Climbing rose. Wow these flowers are prettier than I imagined. The soil is well drained and it gets morning sun.

Rainbow knockout newly planted. The flowers are now a very pale pink. I'm not sure what the problem is.

I learned that roses can handle "heavy" soil by accident. My sister has great soil (loose, fast draining) and she says roses don't do well in it because it is too "loose". Mine have done great even when I haven't amended as well as I thought the roses wanted. Hybrid teas, floribunda and Austin.

If your tree rose is in loamy soil the only way to force those roots down is by deep watering.

The ants are farming the aphids. You can use a mild insecticidal soap, but usually just a heavy spray the roses with the garden hose, particularly on the buds, is enough to knock the aphids off--once or twice a week. Then get ladybugs and praying mantis for your garden. Nurseries usually sell them in bags--just turn them loose. The ants will go way when the aphids do. It's no biggy.

Thank you Carla. Much appreciated. Last year Joseph's Coat was a major superstar. It's best year ever. I think it is four years old now. This spring it had really bad canker and I did not think I would get on top of it but in the last few weeks especially it has improved. Cutting off some of those long cankered canes was hard for me to do. I'm glad I bit the bullet now though. I do like Gruss so far quite a bit. Nice looking plant. I have it out there in pots with Marie Pavie so I can't wait for them to bloom in tandem. Kate

Oxalis comes by itself. If you do not want it everywhere, I would carefully yank it making sure you have everything. In a clay based loam , it became totally infected. I liked it with my wandering jew because it would be very nice in late winter before the wandering Jew had taken off and then it would get rust and die off abve ground and the WJ would be there ready to take over the job of taking over the space. Only problem was it tpook over everything in the front yard. This one is a native . also called wood Sorrel. Eatable in sallad too. A tart taste.

I'm not an expert, and from your roof, I'm guessing you're in Europe somewhere so completely different growing conditions. However, I don't think that plant will ever do well in such a small pot. A rose needs a lot of root to support its top growth and flowers, and I don't think that's possible in its current situation. If that's staying in a pot permanently it needs at least 15gal or more! Hopefully, some pros will pipe in.

Seriously! I love that Citrus Splash. I am trying to find another one but they are all sold out near here. Next year I am going to order a couple shipped. It seems very hard and resistant. I have plenty of bugs around here and nothing is hurting this thing from growing.

Today I did some heavy deadheading on it so we'll see how it re-blooms.
