Cover or not to cover seeds with plastic flat lid.....

or use a heat mat for that matter.

Last year I started my tomatoes and pepper seeds the same way. Pro-mix into flat, poke holes with pencil, drop seeds in, lightly cover, water, place plastic dome on top, put on heating mat, under bed, wait until seedlings emerge.

All was o.k. with the toms but I had poor results from my peppers. As strange as this sounds, only a few peppers around the edges came up. Nothing towards the middle of the flat. I had to replant seeds two to three weeks later which set me back.

Just looking for your opinions, cover or no cover?? Under bed with heat mat or just a sunny window??

Just two simple questions. Thanks for your help,

Sheila
