Hi Joe,

Although I will not be needing any seed for this variety, I just wanted to say how nice it is when people are willing to do what you are doing. I grew aji amarillo (I assume its the same as what you are offering) this year and I really like it. The only drawback for me is that it had a very long growing season even in pots. I did get some ripe ones, however, and they are very good! I thought they would be like lemon drop peppers before I grew them but they are totally different. Both are very good, though. Also, I saw a variety called Aji Chinchi Amarillo at Peppermania and it sounds like it is the same as aji yellow in flavor, but has a short growing season. If anyone has tried it, please share your thoughts.

Someone asked how hot they are. Looking up the Scoville rating of these on Google they look to be medium hot, which is perfect for me. Although the actual Scoville rating is different per site. :)

Just a quick question, I know that aji amarillo takes a long time to produce peppers, so when do you start your seeds.

i would start them end of January early Feb

i noticed the plants grow very rapidly so be prepared to re-pot
of course the earlier you plant the sooner you will have peppers, aji seemed to like the cooler temps but do ok in the heat

this last season i had a aji yellow plant that grew 2 ft tall (give or take) in the house

once i planted it outside it ballooned out to 4 1/2 ft tall and about 3 ft wide it was an awesome producer and i cant even tell you how many peppers i got of that one plant

Ajijoe, if you still have seeds left, I'd like to try them. Most websites seem to put the Scoville rating around 40,000 - 50,000, which scares me a little though, LOL. I'm just now moving up from jalapeno to serrano in my heat tolerance.

Glad this came up again. Big thanks to Joe...I grew two plants last year and harvested a ton of these flavorful peppers, and saved a ton of seeds. I now have four plants ready for the garden and have given seeds to a lot of friends. Great pepper!

I just wanted to post about this pepper. It is very commonly used in many Peruvian dishes, such as Papa a la huancaina and Aji de gallina.

I am not much for very hot peppers but my mother-in-law cooks these dishes using the Aji amarillo. She cuts and washes them and takes the seeds out. It has an absolutely wonderful flavor. Also, when boiled and made into a paste for the sauce, Peruvians who do not want that much heat add fresh cheese, cream, and salty crackers to the mix. Sounds weird, I know, but absolutely delicious.

My husband, who is Peruvian, loves these dishes and he does not really like spicy food.

I looked all over the internet for seeds and found some from Seeds of Change. I cannot wait to grow these peppers this year :)
