Can this possibly be Blue Girl?
Comments (8)I'd second the Paradise mention due to how strong the red tinge is, I have two Blue Girl's and they definitely don't take on a two tone hue. Neptune sometimes has a mild two tone, but still mostly lavender for me....See MoreAfternoon sun only OK for Blue Girl?
Comments (2)Any rose does well with afternoon sun as long as it is at least 4 hours minimum. 6-8 hours is ideal. The only problem I see is that some blooms will fry or bloom too quickly with intense heat. It all depends on the rose itself. I do not grow blue girl, but I have blue moon. Which is similar. Mine gets full sun from 1 pm to sun down. The blooms last a few days. But I'm also in a colder zone. Maybe some one in zone 7 will chime in....See MoreBlue Girl & Iceberg - Bush or Trellis?
Comments (11)Hi Kday. What climate are you growing the roses in? Warm like California or colder and with more weather patterns like the Midwest? Iceberg can easily get 6 feet here (the non climbing version). The climbing Icebergs can easily become ginormous here. I love them, so it's good. But I'm just saying your climate may make the growing conditions different. :-) My Blue Girls are just a few months old and are already almost 6 feet. They're grafted, but still! I have Blue Girl along a fence and will be adding trellises. Some Icebergs I have on obelisks. Some I have as bushes. Iceberg doesn't necessarily need any kind of support here. The climbing iceberg definitely needs some sort of arbor or trellis to climb. Blue Girl seems to be better managed with a trellis in my yard, even though it's not technically a climber. But that may be different where you are. Can you keep them in pots and watch them for a little while to figure it out? I love that you bought en masse. I think large groupings look fantastic!...See MoreBlue girl opinions
Comments (26)Flowers, my Poseidon is own root and it's a tall narrow bush about 5-6' high. You have to be firm about pegging down some of the outer canes if you want blooms beyond the top, and some folks have had success with hard pruning some of the canes each spring. For me, it just seems to delay the bloom at the top of the bush so I let it do as it likes. I don't think own root or grafted makes much difference, as it's nicely and robustly hardy in zone 5. Cynthia...See Morebgrose
