HAVE: Deep Secret/Maggie/Sharifa Asma/S. Chariot for B.Beauty/M.

Mine are adult bushes except Maggie is first year in my garden. All own-root. Want your own-root Buff Beauty and/or Marie Pavie, rooted cuttings OK.

Hi there...I have Buff Beauty. I can send you cuttings..I don't have any rooted.

I would like Maggie cuttings, if we have a trade.

I have a bunch of other roses..I think you can see them on my member page.

By the way, I used to live in Park Slope...still know a few people there..

Hi Patty, I couldn't wait and bought Buff Beauty while Heirloom Roses had it on sale, but I can still give you cuttings of Maggie. It's just that Maggie is first year in my yard and I haven't let it bloom yet, do you think a cutting with a bud formed is just as good? I never trade cuttings before so if you are interested, let me know how do I do it.
I live in Dyker Heights. If you live nearby I might give you the whole plant, because now I want a fruit tree in that spot (sigh...too little space...)

You're welcome! It's not odd that cooler zones will report more fragrance from many than warmer areas. Those in the cooler places are probably smelling them when the oils and alcohols are most volatile and smell the most. We in the warmer areas often miss out because they evaporate faster as the heat increases. Also, as aridity increases, the scents burn out faster. The various components of each rose's fragrance evaporate at different rates, so one may smell very Damask at first, quickly morphing into orris or citrus, finishing a completely different scent before losing any detectable trace for the day. Any user can access the Advanced Search, but Premium Membership permits you to specify multiple traits and types, where basic membership only provides Advanced Search using one criteria. Kim

What fun to see all these! Of the new introductions, I think the hybrid rugosa 'Wild Spice' rates a mention! I once had a hedge of Rosarie de l'Hay, one of my earliest to bloom, and it also had a glorious clove-spiked fragrance. Most rugosas share a unique quality to their scent. Glad to see 'Parole' on the list--a Kordes also sold as Buxom Beauty, a rose which leaped onto my wish list the first I heard of it!

Pink Traviata does fantastic at nearby rose park .. that one is a beast in alkaline clay, hardy for the past 10 years. I'm putting MULCH FILM (black plastic) to kill grass for a new garden next year, but it takes 6 months to completely kill the grass, to be ready for next spring. Our cold zone zaps roses so small, it's so easy to fit into the garden. My La Reine is 1 foot by 0.5 foot, lots of blooms. My Barcelona (very hardy) is even smaller, like a mini-rose. The blooms of own-root are small too, but they get big after 4 years, if the soil is made loamy. When I first got William Shakespeare 2000, it was so small, and the bloom was 1 inch. !! Now in its 5th year, the bush is much bigger, and the bloom is at least 4 inch, I put tons of gypsum in its planting hole, which helps with zillion petals & also sulfate of potash for potassium.

Hi Marlorena, There were a couple of threads a short while back about Filroses and importing their plants into the U.S.. I got some mixed messages about inspections and a quarantine that are required (or not). I am still totally mixed up, but my impression is that getting Filroses plants into, say, Canada, is a lot easier than into the U.S. Even Pickering in Canada has had recent troubles with U.S. red tape. I should contact Filroses and see what they say, but negative info about importing plant material has dampened my enthusiasm. Thanks so much for your comments, though. If you willing to trade for cuttings ,please let me know .I will send the list of roses I can send cuttings from.I CAN SEND THE CUTTINGS THIS FALL AND CAN WAIT FOR THE TRADE TO ARRIVE NEXT SPRING.

A cutting with a well formed bud should be fine for a trade. Good to see this forum is actually "starting" back up this year!
