greenlarry - there is a UK GW forum but it's pretty dead. I just Googled 'UK plant swap' and got a lot of hits. There's one at the link just as an example. I know nothing about it so can't say if it's any good. GW is basically a US outfit so I'm not surprised there's isn't a UK exchange. The red tape and cost involved in shipping across international boundaries makes it difficult. But these things are not just there to annoy us. There is a history of disasters caused by shipping plant material between countries. Dutch Elm disease? Lily Beetle? Sudden oak death? Ash die back? And on and on. All caused by infected plant material being imported. When I flew into Boston they confiscated an apple I was intending to eat on the airport bus. Too dangerous! Okie dokie...I have Susan and Nelson for white rain lilies so far :) Another ? ...We planted a fall/winter veggie garden and some of the veggies are coming up really good and we're gonna need to move some of the ones that are growing to pots because of spacing...I am very willing to share these veggies...here is what I can share if any are interested... Spinach-Mustard Tendergreen (4) Jersey Cabbage (2) Curled Leaf Mustard (4) Purple Top Turnips (4) Mustard (4) with the rain we've been having they've been growing faster than i thought they would...they went from itty bitty sprouts to decent sized starts overnight it seems...if we get more rain I may be able to share more... I know it may be weird to offer veggies/produce plants lol...I just wanted to offer since I have them :)

It is sort of ironic that this board is named "Round Robin" and there are so few round robins on it. I don't know about any rules regarding them, but there may be some. Many have been members longer than I have and may explain this better, but my understanding from reading comments is that there were two problems that came up - the length of time it took for a true round robin to go from person to person and "make all the rounds" (never would work for plants and even iffy for bulbs) and the second issue was a human factor - the robin not continuing to circulate at all or being delayed a long time (even though the inital posting gave a certain time for mailing it back out) or someone taking more than their fair share/everything worthwhile and adding only common seeds, mislabeled seeds, packets with only chaff, spoiled bulbs or whatever the case was - anyway, not something worthwhile. I think there are some small round robins that are done from time to time with regular members. Several years ago I participated in one that was called something like Victoriana (Victorian type garden seeds and things that were handcrafted with a Victorian flair) and it worked really well. That is the only one I have participated in. I have never hosted one and I can't say anything more from personal experience. Those are just some of the things I seem to recall members discussing. Maybe that does more than answer your question... If you are hosting your swap here, it will be great to see how it does. Jeanne

Oh, Kate if this is your first swap you are gonna have a lot of fun! I've been doing them forever and am always thrilled and surprised with what I receive! I have gotten some pretty amazing items in all my years of doing the CF swaps. Once I received a fabulous package from Coranado, California that had 5 different heirloom tomato seeds along with homemade zest of many diferent citrus, dried peppers, and a beautiful homemade card! Then I got a FABULOUS plate from Oklahoma that was thrown in a kiln and horsehair was then put on top of the plate. Absoulutly beautiful and I think of my friend everytime I look at it displayed on my bookcase. I got a great box from California with lots of wine and spices. The box also contained many other wonderful things like, plates that reminded me of my partner everytime I use them. Colorado sent me a beautiful glass platter that hangs in a special place in my home along with some serving spoons. I use the spoons almost daily! Especially with my Grandson! He loves to have his food served to him with these special spoons. Another beautiful package was from California that contained some beautiful old (carnival glass) bowls. They just happen to match my dining walls perfectly. I use them all the time for candy when we have a party. I happen to love OLD decorative items to display in my home from all over the world! I don't want anyone that has been my partner think I've forgotten them...never! There are just to many to list ;-) I guess in short words, ;-), I absoulutly love everything I have ever received in a swap. Just have fun with this swap and enjoy what will come to you in the mail! I can hardly contain myself when my box arrives! So fun!
