Hmmm, thatÂs what it looks like to me, too. Section 3, paragraph 13 says "EXCLUSIONS- For the purposes of registration, the term 'food establishment' does not include a food production facility as defined in paragraph (14), restaurant, other retail food establishment, nonprofit food establishment in which food is prepared for or served directly to the consumer, or fishing vessel..." And, as mentioned above, paragraph 14 defines food production facilities: "The term 'food production facility' means any farm, ranch, orchard, vineyard, aquaculture facility, or confined animal-feeding operation." In trying to sort this out, I also found this article, if itÂs helpful: The Truth about HR875 This is a puzzling issue, since there is such a lot of information against this bill on the internet, and many folks donÂt seem to agree on what it means. (I may need to do more reading.) Even if this particular bill doesn't affect our greenhouses and home gardens, I agree legislation like this can be twisted to cause problems if the scope isnÂt carefully watched by "regular folks." It reminds me a lot of the crazy Consumer Protection Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) that was overwhelmingly passed last August, and was to go into effect Feb. 10. It required ridiculously expensive tests for lead by government labs for every component (and every color) of any item manufactured for children. Sounds good, but as written, it would have put many small businesses, craftspeople, publishers, and kidÂs resale (thrift) stores out of business. Because of public outcry, it has now been delayed for one year, so that gives craftspeople and others more time to try to affect the outcome. Generally IÂm happy to see discussions like this. Too much legislation is passed without any understanding of how it will impact the lives of real people, and the only way to apply the brakes is for regular folks to pay attention and get vocal.

Always fun to list faves, though I think the best is the one that's blooming now! My current summer faves: brunfelsia Isola (lactea x americana, I believe, though no one seems to know for sure)is a blooming machine: I should have taken a picture a week ago, over 30 blooms in a 12" pot! It does get mealy bugs in winter, but it can handle a bit of abuse. Aglaia odorata, aka rice flower: mine's now 3 ft. tall, and seems to bloom after putting out new stems. Interestingly, the fragrance was almost the same as a cymbidium sinense orchid that bloomed at the same time -- heaven to your nose! Trachelospermum 'Mandianum', aka asiaticum, aka whatever they're calling it these days: has stayed in the same pot for years, almost a natural bonsai at this point, keeps popping out small yellow flowers with a marvelous, soft fragrance. And you gotta love the way old leaves turn red before dropping, for that two tone effect! And last but not least, now that I've figure out I wasn't watering my MOO enough, it's blooming all summer long! Yellowthumb, brunfelsia in Ontario? Have you checked flora exotica? Enjoy the scents!

Thanks Bouquet. I have had no luck with any salvia overwintering. I think our winters are too wet with a constant freeze-thaw cycle that is deadly to many perennials. The local nurseries have been adding new salvia types over the last few years. I was able to find 3 different types including greggii (sp?) this spring.

Hehehehe. I tell you, I'm glad we have pictures to go with our posts. I look at these pictures, and what I see is absolutely normal for my garden. I considere them new eyes that decide to grow (in my garden), like a reflush from the crown instead of from the existing eyes. When I salvaged only a tiny piece of the crown of Sugar Snap after my dachshund killed it like a mop, I saw 3 or 4 tiny specks of green, and hoping they were dormant eyes, I planted it right side up. Now I have those smaller leaves coming up in the pot, and it is very healthy and happy looking. It won't be as big as the normal sized leaves this year, I do not think, with the growth coming from such a pint sized scale of an eye, but it will become full size when it has enough roots to support that growth. To me, when I look at the smaller leaves, I know the plant is probably happy or it would not put them up.
