Singing a Love Song

I went to Reagan's Nursery on Wednesday. You can't not buy roses when you go there. I got three new ones. Remember, I have NO space left. But I did have three pots left.

I must have gasped when I say Love Song. I have never seen anything so perfect before. Of course, it became my first choice.

Then, I knew I needed an Eyeconic rose, but which one? I settled on an unlabelled one I fell in love with. I got it for half price because of no label. We are guessing it is Eyeconic Melon Lemonade (and not Pomegranate).

Then, on a whim, I grabbed Love and Peace. There were too many great ones, I could have made myself crazy!

Hi Ingrid: Own-roots can be wimpy for 1st year. I bought 12 tomatoes plants this year.... roots are wimpy like band-size roses. I planted some in my clay mixed with perlite (BAD idea), some in clay mixed with sand, and some in clay mixed with MiracleGro moisture control potting soil. MG moisture control potting soil is sold cheap at Sam's club, only $10 for HUGE BAG. The best performer is in clay mixed with potting soil, the worst performer is in clay mixed with perlite. MG moisture-control potting has cococut coir to hold moisture, but coconut coir itself is sold really expensive at Walmart, $20 for a small block ... I think fixing the soil with MG moisture control potting soil is cheaper, it would hold moisture, and MG-MC potting soil is fluffy and allows best root-growth, plus slow-released fertilizer. My Golden Celebration was a stingy-bloomer for 2 years in hot sun ... I'm so glad that I moved it to partial shade, it gives twice more bloom after the move, and less watering. I dug up Deep Purple that wasn't doing well, and found rock-hard clay underneath ... I fixed it, and it's OK now ... I wish I had done that sooner.

This was nice for my brain today, TM. I didn't have to do much thinking! Loved them all! I remember watching the last one when we lived in England. Daddy had rented a TV(!), and the first night we watched TV, every kid in our small village was looking in our window. Great suggestions, I will see about One if by Land and the Greek restaurant, both sound good! Have used Open Table for several years and love it---it is invaluable when planning family trips especially. I like the security of a reservation! I don't know if I will get to MOMa this time, I wanted to see the exhibit of politically influenced architecture and urban planning but have been totally turned off by the holier than thou video that begins by slamming ikea on Moma's website. It's just ridiculous. May just throw caution to the winds and shop the whole time instead. I am shallow, I find shopping culturally fulfilling, lol. Will undoubtedly end up at ABC but admit my favorite store is still Gracious Home. The Third Ave. location is just a few blocks from our old apt and I think I have spent more time there than any other store in NYC except the button store, which sadly has been gone from 61st St. (near Bloomingdales) for many years and I still miss it. Have not been to Le Bernardin literally for 20 years! Have not been to the current incarnation of Le Cirque and thought that might be fun if I can talk anyone into going.

The Eyeconic rose is charming!

Carruth sure hybridizes lovely roses. Love Song looks like a winner. Always watching for great lavender roses.

The first roses from my love song lasted forever. They finally faded so much that I snapped them off. But they held and held the shape a long time. Love Song looks like it's going to be a great rose.

All beauties! I ordered Love Song from my local nursery and will be picking it up in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

I have the Eyeconic Pink Lemonade and love it. If the Melon is like it you're gonna love yours!

Tra, La, La...Singing a love song 'cuz I'm sooo in love with your photos of her, Kath. Perfection, really. Especially your first photo of this lavender beauty. I adore lavender.

Lol. I think I would be in big-time trouble if I spent ANY time at all at Regans. I can just imagine strolling through their wonderful roses and loading up. "Danger...Danger... Danger." Alarm bells would be going off in my head because I know I would want oodles of them.

I just planted the MOONSTONE they sent me yesterday, and I can hardly wait to see it blooming. I have wanted this rose for a looong time.

Pretty choices! I planted (bareroot) Love Song too this year. It was my free rose from Witherspoon for joining the ARS and the nursery is just a couple miles away.
