Weeping rose for hanging baskets?

Hi, I would like to have some weeping roses to put in a couple hanging baskets. I have a Sweet Chariot in a big pot but would love something different in some hanging baskets. The only color I don't like is red. Thanks, Judy

Ha ha, I was going to suggest Sweet Chariot, then Red Cascade... I had to think harder and came up with Dancing Flame. Mine is very beautiful but very young, looks like it's going to be kind of drapey. Good luck!

here is the weeping tree rose i ordered...this particular nursery does not have great reviews. however neither does michigan bulb but i find they are close enough to me that when i get the plants they are in good shape. i also get a free rose of their choice, that will be interesting to see what i get. anyway there is a link to the weeping tree rose i picked below and i sure hope it is as pretty as in the magazine when established. i really have wanted this for a long long time. this is my valentines day present, told my husband and this is what he got me but i just ordered today. i have asked my rose nursery for ones specifically to use in HB's, and they sold me: 3 hot pants 2 pandemoniums 1 green ice 1 nana's rose 1 carley 1 orange honey 1 cheeky monkey 2 sweet chariots 1 orange patio wonder 2 unnamed home depot babies i can honestly say that every one that they recommended looks proper in the basket, as they have a tedency to sprawl. considering that i transplanted them twice in a two week period, they are doing really well (that is another story with a good lesson in there. )

Correct Size Hanging Basket for Roses

I don't grow my minis in baskets, but if I did, I'd most likely choose a 12" or larger basket so the roots had plenty of room. I think the size of the plant, itself, will determine which size basket you choose. You don't want too large a basket, but not one that's too small and will require re-potting sooner, either. Google "hanging basket roses" and see what comes up... you may find some links with good photos that will give you an idea of proper size.

My favorite is nostalgia. I have 2 in hanging baskets.

Once Dancing Flame is established, it grows quite upright. It is not a good candidate for a hanging basket.

One that used to be recommended for hanging baskets, but now is very hard to find is Swinger. It has yellow blooms and is very nice. I don't know why it is so hard to find.
