Miniature Roses

mini rose ID please :-)

Ok, I know I am a sucker. Got it in a produce store... But it was only $2.50! And there are 3 plants in the pot! Like I don't have enough roses...it's so preeeety. It is medium pink with dark pink in the middle packed full of petals. My son says it has a light scent. ( My allegies are preventing me from smelling anything right now.)The tag says Por La Mar Nursery.

The pic isn't very good. Down to my cell phone camera.

I did email them to ask, and included the photo. I haven't heard back yet. It seemed like the easiest way to find the answer.

"I'm curious as to what they look like when not fertile." Well, here's what Polytrichum ohioense looks like when it's just growing vegetatively: There're also a few old spore capsules in there... I don't have any pictures of Polytrichum juniperinum, though--only saw it once and didn't have time for photography. I look forward to seeing more images of these guys. Polytrichum's one of my favorite mosses. "By the way Patrick, your pictures on your home page are amazing! I had a 3.1 digital Nikon, and just upgraded to a 6.1 Kodak. May I ask what digital camera you use to take your photos?" Thanks! Right now I'm using a Canon Digital Rebel, a digital SLR. I've had this camera since the December before last and before that I was using a Nikon Coolpix 4500 (or, earlier still, a Coolpix 995). On the web page, the smaller images were taken with the Coolpix, the larger images with the Digital Rebel. Angel Face, the problem with these grocery store roses is that there are dozens of them it could be. The two main growers of these are Poulsen and Kordana and they grow thousands of them and ship them here for sale as disposal gift plants. Both Poulsen and Kordana have websites and sometimes if a rose is very distinctive in some way you can find the name. But a plain red mini could be almost impossible to find in the maybe dozens fo red roses they sell. Further complicating things is the fact that often times the growers will substitute one rose for another in their orders. So a buyer might order red rose "Ruby" and end up with red rose "Crimson" instead. They just fill the orders by color, not by name. It's a pretty little rose and I would suggest you just give it a name you like and enjoy it!

Thanks, Diane and Phil, This rose is planted at a customer's house. Unfortunately they don't remember the name and have no record of it. I will go with Michel Cholet unless some other suggestion seems better. Danty

More than likely from Poulsen Roser, and part of their "Parade" series of roses. Without a tag, you can try to check Poulsen's web site, or send them a photo, they have been very accomodating in the past. Poulsen Roser, click on "Products" in the top menu bar, then "Roses" in the left bar, then "Parade".

Well thank you very much, phil_schorr. Very kind.

I have looked and looked at pictures and haven't found a thing. Always the opposite dark on the outside petals and lighter on the inside. I noticed there are a lot more miniature roses than I ever imagined! I only have 10. All but Tiddly Winks are doing rather well.

I transplanted the "ones with no name" 2 days ago. There were really four plants. 3 out of the 4 are going to make it for sure. There is some transplant shock but they are already bouncing back.
It really is a very beautiful rose, bloom and foliage.

Hello, I hope that you can help me.I received ''mini-rose'',with a tag that say's,''Por La Mar Nursery''.. I live in Chicago,And put the mini-rose in a big pot last year,and then was told for the winter to put away in a basement.I did that and took it outside 2 weeks ago,and the ''beautiful''mini rose,has not at all bloomed..I took such good care of it,and now i don't know what to do to 'rejuvenate',it.I have it on my deck now,and there is not even a look of-life..can you help me in how to get it back to bloom like last year..Thank You For Any Help.Sincerely,

Josephine, better to create a new topic. What color are the canes? If green, then look along the canes for little leaf buds that should start to grow out. It just needs a little warmth to come out of dormancy, and it could be weeks until it sets flower buds and blooms. If brown or black, the plant is probably dead, but dig down under the soil to see if there are any green canes there.

If the basement where you stored the rose for the winter was reasonably warm, that wasn't the best thing for the rose. It's better to put them in an unheated garage or shed and let them go dormant over the winter. Also, be sure to give them a little water once in a while so they don't completely dry out during the winter.
