I don't know! I'm waiting on my two. I know that most of my variegated plants need less sun. My plummies all are in the ground and mostly in full sun.

I think I will probably give it afternoon shade just to be safe. I wonder how well they flower? I hear they arent really the greatest flowerers, and the leaves are the main reason for there popularity.

I just can't find much info on them. I wanted them for the foliage. Can't find info on bloom colors, care, anything. I guess we'll just have to wait to find out.

Im pretty sure that these plumerias dont like to flower much. They arent very willing to branch either and are pretty much grown for foliage only, unfortunatly.

I think the bloom color is red, it might be peach. They dont have a lot of info at all on these plants. They werent too easy to find either, some are on ebay, but most of those are from sellers in other countries.

Looks like the only way to know what they can handle is through trial and error. Ill try it in an area with full, hot morning sun and move it in shade if I see it struggling.

Mine will have to go in for a couple of days as they are predicting a freeze right about the same day of delivery! YUCK! Then I'll put them on the east side of the garden and move as needed. I'm not to sure about throwing them into the full Texas sun, even in winter! We've had way tooo much cold weather this year.
BT is the only source I found in the US, but I had to wait for them to have a sale, even then that's way more than I usually pay for plants.

I got mine for 20 dollars (not too bad considering its size, but that didnt include shipping). The roots arent too big, but im going to keep it in a nice spot indoors so hopefully it will get stronger. I cant wait until summer so my plants can really start growing again. Mine came on a cold day too and it was actually freezing outside when it arrived. I lost one leaf from the cold, but surprisingly there was no other damage at all. Its wasnt outside for that long though.

Hum, I will say this though. Most my variegated anything I own never seem to do to good in full sun..Mostly bright sun light, not direct sun..But then I wonder if these things grow in full sun in the wild in Bankok..

You know what, I would probably e-mail one of the ebayers as if you are thinking about buying, and ask them this question. Ask them if they are use to growing in full sun?

You will then know for sure, since they are good at growing them..From the lack of response you are getting, something tells me no one else grows them...

Thats a good idea. I'll just ask the person I got it from. Summer is still a long way off so im not in a rush. They dont seem to be grown by too many people (not sure if its because of the limited availability, or if they just aren't desireable) but Il be seeing its full potential this summer I guess. i will give you guys an update once summer comes and its outside and see if it will burn in sun (Im not even going to risk putting it in full sun though).

I once had a variegated banana tree, thinking bananas love to be outdoors in sun all day, right? Not...

That was a very bad mistake. Every leaf burnt and it took two years to get it to look good again..The E-bayer who sold it to me said, bad mistake, they only like bright diffused light, or to be canopied by a tree...Go figure.

If they can't handle the FULL hot sun, then that might explain the lack of flowering..Hummm

Your definitely onto something! Plumerias need lots of sun to flower, but this one probably cant handle that much sun. So I guess the only way to even see flowers on it would be to give it as much sun as possible without burning the leaves off.

Now Im going to find out what conditions the seller who gave it to me was growing it in! Ill let you all now once I find out.

For the last year or so I have had a variegated plumeria, Anyamanee, planted in my backyard in zone 10. It is in partial sun. Initially it had one tip. Last summer it bloomed some medium sized red flowers. After the inflorescence dropped it developed 3 branches from that area. It seems to grow slower than my other plumerias. Since the weather here has gotten cold (we've had temperatures in the high 30's and 40's) it dropped its leaves as most of the others.

At least I know it can bloom in part sun. I really look forward to seeing blooms on my plant. How tall was yours before you got blooms? I definately agree with the growing slower because mine is pushing leaves VERY slowly unlike my other plumieras righ now which are growing leaves just a little slower than usual.

I was not very tall---a little over 2 ft I would guess

I guess I dont see the harm in saying the sellers name. Its mda1515 on ebay. They rarely have plumerias for sale though, so I think I just got lucky, but Im sure he or she will have them again eventually. So far mine still is proving to be an extremely SLOOOoow grower, but Im sure when it goes outside for the summer it will pick up its pace.

Just ran across this old post and wanted to add that it is possible to find these variegated cultivars here in the States, at Brad's. (No, I don't work for them; I just strongly believe in buying these plants here and not overseas.)

Just check under the "Thai Plumeria" section and there are a couple different ones available, grafted.

Thanks for the info! Since I started this thread, my Variegated Plumeria rotted right at the base. I was thinking about throwing it out, but I decided to give it one more shot so I cut above the rot and put it in some dirt. I watered it every once in a while (100 degree weather is rare here and we had several days of it in a row this past summer), but I still made sure it was very dry. It slowly grew some leaves and now (probably) has a decent root system. Im hoping it will take off next year and so far it is my slowest plumeria (probably because of the stress it was under).

I got mine from Buried Treasures last year, sign up for their email, I got them 40% off through email.
One is doing great and doubled in size. The other is much more variegated but the snails love it, they have eaten the leaves off several times, I thought it was toast but it survived.
I put them in an area that gets full sun on & off throughout the day but none in the middle of the day and they are doing great. We have a cold front coming through now but not cold enough to bother them. They are in pots, after last years freeze I'm not taking any chances. Plummies that were 30-40 years old died and haven't come back. I still think it was the combo of hurricane then freeze.
