Wikipedia and Chiles

I insist that Wikipedia is unvetted crap, particularly on the issue of chiles and on most other subjects as well. Both the entries on guajillo and chipotle are completely incorrect.

If you want to cite some authority , find one that is accurate and not Wikipedia.

well for geology, geochemistry, geophysics, and usually geography it's pretty good. Those are the main topics I use it for, I usually use chile websites for chile info.

Heresy. The bible has all the answers, and if'n you don't find it there, the Utube gods will provide...especially about geology and paleontology... ;-)

The soil itself breaks down slowly and that breakdown is enough for almost all plants. Dry poweder fertilizer is SALT. Salt kills plants. You go ahead and give them plenty of salt for food and watch them die. Organic fertilizers are usually not salt. But all the dry powder ferts are all SALT. A little salty fert can be OK but the salt builds up in the soil. It takes a lot of rain water to wash out the salt. Organic matter breaks down slowly and provides all the nutrients a plant needs that is why weeds grow without fertilizer. Trees grow huge without fertilizer. People are brainwashed by the companies that sell SALT. The politically correct term for SALT is Chemical Fertilizer. The few Bhut we grew again this year are just now setting fruit but are already odd-shaped & wrinkled. Hubby just grows them for powder after he dries & grinds them. They always germinate so slow & grow so slow at first but then catch up to the Barker, Heritage Big Jim, NM Heritage 6 & our own 'Sin Nombre'. Seed purchased from NM State U. in Las Crucws, NM. & they went back to the old original Big Jim & NM 6 seed to 'reclaim' the better chili flavor x those old varieties. Hubby's ten dehydrators & one mixer/blender are kept in the garage & are used for nothing else... the fumes linger there year round!Second picking of the Big Jim & so far have picked 63 lbs. & roasted & frozen; the Barker was roasted, peeled & dried & ground for powder like the Bhut. 'Senior years' has lessened the ability to eat the EXTRA-HOT 'Sin Nombre' any more! Very hot & dry weather here this year so the chilies must like it! They are on soaker hoses on timers. Hatch though has gotten a lot of rain so hope it doesn't hurt their crops this year. Sad as I've heard some 'Hatch' labelled chili is coming up from Mexico but the local stores have the Hatch farms names on the labels so think those are legitimate. O.T. to Melaska, We're an equal opportunity cheese consumer here--I even seek out and buy Limburger, which is still made in Wisconsin but DH draws the line here. There are a number of very affordable gorganzolas and blues made in Wisc. and Minnesota. Also lots and lots of cheddars in Wisconsin. Wisconsin marketers produce a cheese-beer road trip map that is my guide. I love it. Have hit about a third of the dairies. I can get aged cheddars at Burnett Co Farmer Coop for no more than $7/pound, which has spoiled me. They've worked up some specialties also which we're really enjoying. They do a mail order business. Moozarilla is their yogurt cheese that is very white and gets a lot of comments. Alpha Morning Sun and the Wood River series are nicely done. I'm not sure their parmesan would be up to your standard, but maybe. They've won awards for provolone for a long time and for string cheese. "The Splendid Table" on NPR turned me on to Roth Kase's gruyere from Monroe, WI. Best quality gruyere made in USA. Prairie Breeze, made in Iowa, is also showing up in specialty stores here. A real hit at wine tastings. We send boxes of cheese and wild rice to family in Fairbanks in Priority Mail boxes. No California cheese need apply, despite all their marketing. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Complaining helps no one. If what is on Wikipedia is incorrect, FIX IT! That's what a wiki is all about.

Just be prepared to cite some authority for your statements.

I'm going to have to consult the only trusted sources of information on the Internet; The Onion and The National Enquirer.

Yep, those aliens are crafty creatures. plus, my husband said he was flipping around the channels and came across the show, and they were saying how it wasn't a meteor that took out the dinosaurs but that the aliens nuked them... we may be in trouble.....

When researching the original Guajillo pepper thread I found around 75% of the URL's reported it was a dried Mirasol beside the WiKi article.

What-cha gonna do, fight city hall?

And you're right about the use of chipoltle which I didn't know until I researched your meaning of it above. So is Chipotle Meco correct for smoke dried Jalapenos? TIA

Tom...yep, I've seen it. Actually the head of the geology dept at TU was talking about getting a forensic geochemistry degree started... Told him I'd be interested, it never came to pass... thing is... a lot of geochemistry is forensic... so I'm not sure what they are aiming at.

I guess if you consider the K/T & Permian extinction events a "crime." I always thought "earth sciences" were all forensic as they all deal with past events, with vulcanism being the exception...

Looks like your pics didn't clear the commons and have been removed. It's not easy to add pics to commons unless you took - and thus own - them.

But keep it up! That is the only way a wiki improves.

yeah i got permission from pepperlover and buckeye to use their pictures on the wiki, but all the copyright crap you have to put in is a lot of work

IIRC they require that you enter the email address of the owner so they can confirm your permission. I've only had to do it once or twice, but yeah, it's a pain.
