What's wrong with my minature roses?!?! (pics included)

They were gorgeous when I bought them 5 days ago. The leaves were gorgeous and glossy and green. But not some of the leaves have turned brown/ yellowish brown.

They are in a spot with tons of direct sunlight, in my front yard and they have gotten plenty of water(from me, and it has rained).

What's wrong with them? I don't want to go to the trouble of planting them if they are diseased. I've included some pictures of the brown leaves. It had just rained, so that's why there are water droplets.

Where'd you buy em? I suspect they haven't been used to direct glaring sunshine yet. Plant them, prune off affected leaves, keep watering the s**t out of them, and be surprised if they actually reward you by living and producing flowerettes for you!

I bought them at a local supermarket(Giant). They were so pretty and healthy and strong looking that I decided to put them in my yard.

Of course, I can return them if I need to. What do you think are the chances they will live?

Yeah, I think I figured it out so I'll post this before I hit myself with a hammer. They're own root from RU and I planted them after the frost. I sprayed all my roses with a fungicide on Saturday, the rose from the top two pics being the first....here's where it gets good. I hadn't used the sprayer for a couple years, the last time being when I used a soap wash to prep my deck for staining. Though I conscientiously rinsed the canister, I didn't run water through the spray line. All the other roses look fine, so my assumption is that the chemical residue from the deck prep solution is responsible for the rose damage (or, more accurately, I'm responsible for spraying it). So, do I just watch the rose die while I stew in the ample juices of my own stupidity, or is there some other course of action to possibly nurse it back to health--something resembling your advice, ramblinrosez? ....I'm very angry right now.

I took a look at the images you provided. I do not see anything wrong with your seedlings. If they are going mushy the photos do not show it. When I plant my seeds I try to use sterilized soil/sand. I bake it for over an hour at 225 F. I also like to keep the seeds/soil in a container with an airtight lid (transparent 6" wide by 3" deep take-out containers are good). I like to keep my soil just slightly humid. It should not be wet to the touch. Every few days I check to make sure the soil has not dried out. If it has I spray a few spritzes of water to moisten the surface. The soil is in a sealed container so the moisture will eventually fill more or less evenly. I keep my seedlings under a daylight fluorescent bulb. I think it is 20 watts or so. I use 4 bulbs and have the seedlings about 10-12" from the bulb. I leave them in the sealed container for at least 6 months, sometimes a year. When they are large enough I take them out and plant them into SMALL pots. Something Like an old styrofoam egg container is good. Poke holes in the bottom of each well so it will not hold water. You can cut off the lid and use it as a base. It makes for a sturdier way to pick up the set of 12 wells. Allow the soil to dry out between watering. At this stage you can move the plants to a bright window. Be careful to introduce the plants to strong sunlight (U.V.) gradually or the will burn (usually they go red when they burn). That's how I do it.

It would be helpful is you detailed the soil conditions where your cannas are growing. Much of central Alabama soils are often heavy red clay and these soils tend to lock up nutrients if the soil pH is not corrected. I would first suggest you do a soil test at your local county extension office and follow the recommendation given. They could also give guidance on the leaf conditions. The round circular necrotic lesions are very likely bacteria leaf spot. This occurs primarily from dirt being splashed or splattered on the leaves. This may have occurred when you were weeding. It would be beneficial to put light mulch on the ground. I do not believe you have rust present as this is primarily prevalent in hot dry weather. As suggested above, you may want to remove and destroy the leaves with narcosis. The pale green leaves should improve with proper nutrition and warm sunny weather. Be sure to get the pH corrected. A very large rose slug or large caterpillar and rose sawfly larvae(rose slug). Yes, that much damage will weaken your rose. Caterpillars are easier too find either early morning or later in evening.They tend to crawl too the bottom in the heat of the day. Check the bottom of leaves for little green worms those are the rose slugs. You can also use a spray bottle with water and few drops of dish soap. Spray bottoms of leaves too get the rose slugs. I squish them it's easier. I don't think I've ever seen them strip the leaves that bare.

before I read desert son's answer I thought "heat". But I was thinking not so much direct sun light, although that could be, but it got too hot for them especially if they were in a bag or plastic.

OK, they will be fine. They were grown in a greenhouse. As desert_son said, they have never seen or felt the heat of sunlight until you put them outside. The leaves are burning. When plants like this are bought (or we receive them from vendors), it is advised to "harden them off" by only exposing them to sunlight a couple of hours a day, increasing the time over a week or two, until they can stand full sunlight. The rest of the time keep them in a sheltered area, or someplace with dappled shade. On a porch would be good. They look very healthy otherwise, the roses in the Parade series are a pretty sturdy bunch.

I thought 'sunburn' too. Many years ago back up north I tried to grow minis indoors with sorry results. When spring came I planted them out in full sun and those leaves looked similar to yours but mine were worse! They soon produced nice green leaves and were fine.

I bought a mini rose at walmart. It is beautiful but the leaves are turning yellow. Is there anything I should do to stop that ?

clairdo2, it would be better if you started a new thread so that more people are see your question. Where do you have the plant now, indoors or outdoors? How much are you watering it? Minis really want to be planted outside like other roses. These plants were grown in a greenhouse with great lighting and watering on schedule. Inside of your home doesn't have enough light. A few people are successful growing them inside, but they require a lot of light. Also, it might be overwatered or underwatered.

Go back to the main "Miniature Roses" page and do a search on "indoors", you'll find a few threads that discuss this issue.

Looking at your photos, it looks like sunburn.
Here are a few tips :
#1 : Never ever put a new mini in full sun for at least one week. Then an hr or two sun per day. Mine stay in the shade for two full weeks. Your minis probably came out of a greenhouse. Of course you can only do that when you plant them into pots and can move them around..
# 2 : Go easy on fertilizer !!! I never fertilize mine for the first two weeks. First only half strengh for two weeks than you can go full strengh. Also remember, when it calls for a teaspoon of water soluble fertilizer only a level spoon and not heaped !!
