Thanks fruitnut, The roots shown in the pic look nice because I removed 75% of them (mostly black, they "pinched off" easily in clumps). That's what I'd call a real "hack job" didn't even use my knife and scissors until the last step to trim the larger ones to fit into the container. What you see is where the roots stand now. I did trim the trunk once, there is a pic showing it removed. It turns out, that was a second "gall" at the base of the trunk. I pierced the main gall accidently with my chop stick, lots of white puss, I guess "sap", came out. You guys think I should remove the remaining gall, by shortening the trunk? What about "gallicide" or whatever, as bleach is not effective on the bacterium? You think it should recover OK?

I found my own previous post here from when I first bought the tree. It's called LITTLE Jeanne. I still had the tag then. Yes, she's really cute. Today I bought a dwarf pomegranate called Orange Marmalade. I felt sorry for it-totally neglected, a huge weed growing in the nursery pot, dead leaves, etc. Lots of good healthy leaves though. I drenched it, gave it a nice shower, pulled out the weed and its root, and trimmed off the dead stuff. Tomorrow she gets planted in a big blue ceramic-look pot. Then in the shade a day to recuperate. I feel like Charlie Brown who said about his Christmas tree, "I think it needs me". LOL.

According to this article, all cactus like plant(including hybrids i.e orchid cactus) has edible fruits, including yours, which looks like an orchid cactus plant.
