ghost chili colors

i have a ghost chili plant with 8 nice sized peppers (3-4 inches). they have been a light green color (very similar to a banana pepper) for about 2 weeks. is that a normal color, and how long usually before they change colors?

time varies with the weather & such they have a long ripening time

My Ghost pods are mostly light green color they been that way for awhile seems like months. They are slow to change. They will start to change orange then red. Look at all the pods you will see the light green get darker and then you know in a week you will start seeing it change orange. Once you get a ripe one others quickly follow.

I just started getting pod changes to orange this week. I started my Bhut in December.

put them in a big pot with miricle grow, water every 5 days with tomato plant food and let them get sun- they love sun!

My chilies are slow grown. They are just beginning to turn. Growing in Oregon can be hit or miss when it comes to hot sunny days.. I'm hoping I can bottle a bit of sunshine to hold me over until spring.... "Hot Holidays to All"

Wow Mark are you serious? I planted in March and I've already harvested about 30 ripe bhuts. I guess climate has a lot to do with it. I apologize, I wasn't trying to rub it in. I was just proud at how I had become a patient man.....guess I wasn't as patient as I thought!

Tim, I planted in December and my Red Hab has put out 60+ harvested pods and many more on the plant that I will make into sauce. My Ghost was among the unlucky ones I had in a carrying case (no drain holes, ughhh) as seedlings to move them indoors and out while hardening off, bad rain storm and they sat in water all day while I was at work and damping off set in. I used the cinnamon treatment and it set that plant back at least a month while trying to survive, or no doubt it would have been a great producer. Damping off killed at least 7 of my plants and only two survivors.

Sorry to hear that Mark. It's good to see you persevered. The pods are beautiful and I know you will put them to good use. That's the nice thing about gardening.......there's always next year. I just hope someday I'll be as wise as you "old guys". :)

imagine this Tim I planted in March too and then I got two nice ripe pods. Now 5 months later I have 2 4 foot tall by 3 foot wide plants with zero pods ever. its been 95 degrees here for going on 60 days. I should have used shade cloths,but I suspect it is the night time temperatures of 82 here in Texas that is dropping the flowers. Im ready for October. Hopefully Ill have tons of Pods. Talk about being patient.

Mark, those are some beautiful pods. Just looking at them makes my salivary glands pucker in fear. Enjoy!
