Here's this week's harvest. I'll show the pods that I need help I.D. with. I posted some pics a couple weeks ago and you guys/girls couldn't help too much because of the small sample size and immature pods. Here's hoping these help.

Ok. name that pod is over but we can play it with this one also -- this one is my only in-ground Chinense and was from seed that I saved last year from a plant I bought at a nursery labeled as "Ghost" and you guys said was a Naga cross. This plant definitely has the largest and most uniform looking pods of any of my superhots. it's also loaded. Just is taking forever for ripe pods though. My first one of the season.

Now for the rest.

The 7pot is definitely distinct in it's pod shape.

Hope my plants survive though. Something's afflicting them. It's either Powdery mildew or maybe mites. I released some lacewing eggs so hopefully if it's mites, it may not be too late. The powdery mildew, on the other hand is tougher. I've never had it affect my pepper or tomato plants, but i definitely see it on those plants. Some leaf loss and yellowing. Starting to get discouraged and it's only August.

I Tend To Think They Are Dorset Naga. Looks Alot Like Mine.

I have Naga Vipers and they look very similar to yours except the "skin" is much more shinier. So, you definitly have a variety of Naga there.

Sounds like it is croaking to me. Phal pods take about 4 months to mature. If yours is yellowing and shrinking in significantly less than that time, it is not maturing. Ripe pods split open by themselves without shrinking first. Try pollinating again on the next blooms.

whynotmi, here ya go. The PEOPLE here are the best search engine!!! LOL Black Forest Preserves 6 1/2 cups granulated sugar 1/3 cup sifted unsweetened cocoa powder 3 cups firmly packed coarsely chopped pitted sweet black cherries 1/2 cup lemon juice 2 pouches liquid pectin (each 3 oz) 4 TBLS. amaretto liqueur or 1/2 teaspoon/2 ml almond extract 1. Prepare canner, jars and lids. 2. In a small bowl, combine sugar and cocoa powder. Stir well and set aside. 3. In a large, deep stainless steel saucepan, combine sherries and lemon juice. Stir in reserved cocoa mixture. 4. Over high heat, stirring constantly, bring to a full rolling boil that cannot be stirred down. 5. Stir in pectin. Boil hard, stirring constantly, for 1 minute. 6. Stir in amaretto liqueur. 7. Remove from heat and skim off foam. 8. Leave 1/4 inch headspace in jars. 9. Process 10 minutes in BWB. Makes about seven 8 ounce jars. And, no I didn't go pick cherries. I am TRYING to only put up things we actually LIKE! :+) MY DH wasn't all that thrilled with the "different" kinds of jam I make in the last two years. Lemon-Lime Marmalade Apple Pie Jam Banana Nut Jam Black Forest Preserves Vanilla Fig Preserves (thank you Jessy! And I don't care if he doesn't like this one...I DO, more for me!! He actually does like it though) He usually just wants Grape, Strawberry, Raspberry or Blackberry. Just one flavor, no combos. Boring! regular ... CHEAP florescent shop lamps are good enough ... how many and how close is the issue ... key word: light intensity ... 2 words.. lol ... plants started now .. [too early!] .... will not go dormant until next fall ... you need a 2 or 4 light fixture.. fully adjustable from about 6 inches to 3 feet ... lights will be on a timer .. 16 hours on.. 8 off ... one on/off cycle if your timer allows ... did you find the link .. oh crikey.. i will do it for you ... but i have to tell you.. if i have to write a tome for you .. i will probably lose interest ... i enjoy answering specific questions ... etc .. see link .. ken Here is a link that might be useful: yep.. right there.. just right of dead center on the library home page .... your choice on location ..... read up.. narrow down your questions.. please .... and trust me.. your first 'get up' need not be anything as complicated as those shown here ....

I don't do any "canning" myself Pam. Pickled Japs and Serranos and carrots get put in old gallon pickle jars and in the fridge. Same thing goes for my pickled cukes and zucchini -- Mrs. Wage's fridge packs and in the fridge. Yep. I believe a ton of flavor is coaxed by roasting. The japs don't get skinned, just roasted. Regarding the dried chiles and reconstituting. it's quicker than grinding or crushing. And biting into a hunk/piece of dried chile is less than desirable. Look at a bottle of chile powder --- it's ground fine. Not only that, but dried lleathery anchos and guajillos are raisin textured... you can't grind them to a powder. No problem about your inquiry about reconstituting. I know you're reluctant ...LOL I'll convert you sooner or later :P Try it this way once. you'll see the difference. ;) Actually, I use a lot of cumin also. But, like cinnamon, a little really does go a long way. And, too much and you just screwed up the whole dish and there's nothing one can do to fix it. JMO My chili is done...just letting it sit for a couple hours. The next couple days are when it will be REAL good. Kinda like spaghetti sauce. Kevin

LOL. It isn't just one or the other guys. I'm growing 3 (actually 4 if I include my in-ground "naga-cross"). But I didn't label the pots.

What I'm growing is Bhut, Naga Morich, and 7 pot. The 7 pot are easy. So, in the photos above(where I ask Naga or Bhut), pick one. Tell me if you think it's a Naga Morich or a Bhut. I do know ONE thing--- Not ALL are Bhuts OR Nagas.

Very nice harvest, sir! Just excellent!

First pic - Naga.

Second pic - Naga....but has something else going on, too....deeper lobes, like Habanero influence.

Third pic - the big pile - those are the most Bhut-like of the bunch, with a few squat Naga looking pods, which could simply be smaller Bhuts.

Fourth pic - intermediate form, like an elongated Naga, but certainly Bhut playing a strong role.

Fifth pic - solo pod - definitely a Naga shape, but more blistered skin than the Naga Dorset or Naga Morich that I've grown.

That's how I'd break 'em down. If you're familiar with the distinct flavor of Bhut versus Naga...well, that'll help narrow it down considerably.

Well Done Kevin. Pods size and shape could be different according to our growing condition, my opinion is based on my growing experience. So sometimes the taste could help us to identify the real or the closest one.

They all look the same to me. :-) Honestly, how much difference is there between a Naga and a Bhut? I collected some Black Naga's last night. Seem to look the same as my Bhuts... to me that is.

LOL... I see what all of you are doing. You're telling me that the only TRUE way of figuring it out is to put myself through a world of hurt.

Josh: I don't have anything to go by. Last year was my first superhot year and it was ONE plant and all of you said Naga cross" (solo pod above). What I recall of that one was that it was very fruity like berries. Then I hear of others describing Bhut flavor...berry tasting.

Any particular "flavor" that I should be concentrating on with each variety? Bhut, Naga Morich, and 7Pot.
