wow! that's cold ;). and they were producing flowers at these temps since dec? curious even more - how often do you water and with what water temp? were these in old last year pots overwintered in GH? so you did not disturb the roots? or were these repotted in the fall? wondering how are the roots growing at such low temps? i don't see many leaves on the pics. so it's just the blooms? i suppose 80F during the day raises the soil temps too somewhat?

They don't really spread, more like form a clump, but you can stick branches or even the stem end of leaves into the ground and they will root easily. They tend to get leggy so you'll want to keep pinching. Mine responded very well to foliar feed with 1/2 strength miracle gro. BTW,,, It is Tho-no-toe-sass-ah. We are above and to the right of the lake. The lake is the largest in Hillsborough County and possibly dug by a chunk of the meteor that plowed out the Gulf of Mexico. That is a Tall Bearded iris. What its' name is I do not know. The most common iris in arrangements are Dutch Iris. Florists don't really like Tall bearded iris for two reasons. 1. They don't last very long individually. 2. They tend to bleed color, sometimes staining valuable table cloths etc. We always have Tall Bearded Iris on our table during bloom season because we enjoy the bloom and fragrance. We just address the stain issue by not putting them where they might stain something.

in my MI ... its a summer annual .. that sometimes reseeds ... and it is happiest in full sun ... [when not potted] ... individual flowers are rather ephemeral .... and it is not surprising that those on the plant were shocked by transportation ;.. and wilted fast ... and do pinch off the flower buds ... once it goes to seed... it will slow in flower bloom ... how vigorous it will rebloom ... and it does for me.. all summer long ... will probably be a function of light levels ... it might help to know which one.. or type you have ... as it might make a difference ... if you live in a very warm place... it would probably be best.. in mother earth ... and if you do such ... you will need to harden it off to sunshine ... your nursery might be able to give you guidance .. and if not.. a pic and a location will get you some ideas.. better than guessing on our part ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link
