Wow! I actually have blooms right now!

I haven't been paying much attention to the yard with the colder weather and the holidays and stuff. But with this little surge in warmer temps this week, I hadn't really noticed these guys until I came home for lunch today. Had to snap their pics! I can't wait for spring!

Wow Beth, Congratulations! Here on Vancouver Island, we are just having storm after storm. Another sudden one this afternoon. Hurricane winds for sure - the cedar trees were just about bent in half in the sways and the monsoon turned to a blizzard - unbelievable.
Anyway, those roses are a treat for sore eyes this time of the year. Do you leave them on the bushes, or are you tempted ot bring them in doors and enjoy them there. I think I would have to! Tee-hee! Thanks your roses are all incredible.

Alana, the Neon Rose you sent me is just amazing!!! The pic above was taken on Dec 18th. This pic was taken tonight and not a single flower has faded yet!!! Looking down at all seven open blooms: And here she is with her friends: Neon Rose at top, with Blossom Peacock, Gervase and Sweet Lilian from left to right. The only thing I can think is that because the pot is outside, the cold weather is acting as a preservative. We dip down into the mid 30's at night, and rise up to mid 60's during the day. We've had a few frosty mornings, but the pot is protected by the porch roof. Certainly can't thank you enough for that PROLIFIC bulb!! :-) Phoenix Ryan

CRACKINGTHECONCRET;Thats very sweet of you to offer to send me starts of your plants,and I do appreciate that, but, its just too hot here for me to plant anything else.I am worn out just from watering in the evening. HONALEE;Don't know about that Zinnia.I do have some thats called CANDY CANE and I dont care for that one very much. KITCATCLUB; Thanks for the n ice comment.Sorry that you hsve had bad luck growing the Zinnias.They are such a pretty flower and there is so many different kinds of them. Maybe you could spray them with some thing to protect them from Rust.I have just never heard of them getting rust before, but all things is possible. Jean

Well I can't find my zinnia seeds. : ( I found some from a couple of years ago and if those germinate, I'll have plenty. I should have some volunteers too, but it would be nice if I could find the seeds I bought earlier this year. grrr When you mentioned perennial salvia, you reminded me that I have May Night blooming or seedlings from it at least. I don't think I still have the original plant. I need to watch and see if any hummingbirds/butterflies visit that. I don't think so though. I've seen a couple Monarchs fluttering by but they didn't stop and have seen a few Black Swallowtails. I have never seen a Zebra Swallowtail in my yard. Those are the ones that use Pawpaw as a host plant. I have a five inch tall Pawpaw planted by my fence row now and two more, just as small, in pots that I will plant this fall. I planted two last fall but only one made it through the winter.

I've posted quite a few pictures already this season, but here are some recent shots. Lots of red in my garden now. It's funny how I went from mostly orange bloomers, then to yellow, and now it's primarily red. It would be great if I could have a little of each color all season long. Crocosmia 'George Davidson' Blackberry Lily (seeds came from Skybird) Gazania 'Talent Red' (wintersown) Silene regia (wintersown in '09, I think) Penstemon pinifolius Daylily 'Santa's Gift' (came from Catladysgarden) Gaillardia 'Goblin' (I love how once these start blooming, they go all the way till first frost if deadheaded occasionally) Most of the daylilies are finishing up now, so is the Achillea, Golden Marguerite, and Butterfly Weed. July was definitely the peak of the bloom season, especially for the daylilies. This was their best year yet! Bonnie

Just by seeing your stunning rose photos help me through those blah winter cold days, and keeps me hoping for spring.

It was more that 20 degrees below freezing here last night... yep I envy your roses at this time. Enjoy them for the rest of us and keep posting pictures, they keep those of us without going till the spring. In other words I second Niecey's sentiments.

Thanks you guys! Unfortunately, this warm snap is going to be very short-lived! We're supposed to be getting a cold front coming from Alaska tonight. Supposed to "possibly" get in the teens in the night! Yikes!

Pauline, I leave them on the bush. This time of yr, they'd turn brown if I brought them inside.

Niecey, sounds like you've been scoping the Pickering website? I don't have CONSTANCE FINN or PINK ABUNDANCE. And I assume that's the Fryer SUMMER DREAM you're asking about? I have the old J&P one, but not the Fryer one. Just got ST PIERS a few weeks ago. Don't know if I have any pics of PRETTY LADY, as she didn't bloom much last yr, but I'll check. I just recently discovered that I have TAMBOURINE. I bought it at Heirloom under the name they changed it to... GYPSY ROMANCE. Unfortunately, it hasn't bloomed yet. I'll definitely have pics of BERYL BACH and PENSIONER'S VOICE tho. I don't have time to post them right now, but I'll do it when I get off work this evening.
